It is actually called lowlights. Highlights is when they use a lighter color over the over the base color. Lowlights is when they use a darker color over the base color.
So just tell the stylist you want lowlights. After that, is just a matter of deciding what shade you want

I have dyed blonde hair but my dark roots were coming through (about 3 inches) so I frosted the top portion of my hair. it turned out really nice....unfortunately my hubby thought differently, as we wants me to grow back out my natural color.
Is there such a thing as "reverse highlighting" or doing darker highlights in blonde hair for a more natural look while I transition back to my natural medium brown hair? What would I buy, or what would I ask a color expert at the salon to do?
