I remember that infomercial also, and as a matter of fact I bought some!!!
Let me tell you, I never left the house with those things in my hair! I spent one afternoon trying to put them into my hair, my husband made so much fun of me. First of all the instructions were not very clear, and second my hair is so thin and fine all they did was slip down everytime I cliped them in. They also came with a "halo" looking thing, basically hair on fishing thread in a circle, good idea, but not so good when you have a small head and cannot adjust the size of the circle. But I tried and tried for umpteen hours, and never managed to get them into my hair and look good!!
The only wear these extensions got was from my Rottwieller, my hubby clipped one onto her rearend so that she would have a tail!! Wish I would have taken pictures of that, it would have been so great to email the company the before and afters. Granted, at the time these came out, we didn't have the world wide web. Boy, does that date me or what????
When I was at the Jessica Simpson/Ken Paves photo shoot in April there was this gorgeous model there with dark black hair. Really pretty girl. She looked familiar somehow but I couldn't immediately place her.
It was one of those things where I was trying to figure out where I met her before. So I asked her and she said she had been the Playboy Playmate of the Year. Well that didn't ring a bell for me because I really don't check out Playboy. Then she said maybe I knew her from her boyfriend who was a pro football player. And again...no lightbulb there.
Finally she said that she had been on an episode of Girls Next Store and was best friends with Holly and Bridget. Then it all fell into place. In fact, on one of the episodes the girls took her to Las Vegas to celebrate her birthday. I remember watching that episode in fact. So lightbulbs finally went off.
I asked her to tell me "the real scoop" on the girls and she said that they are just like they seem on TV. Really funny and true sweethearts. She actually stayed at the PB Mansion for extended periods while working on the various spreads and the cover and got to the know the girls really well. She said that they were so much fun to hang out with.
So Sherrie you are right on with your observations.
It was so funny bumping into her and she was really sweet (the model). And definitely surreal.

Barbielocks....I love Holly's hair as well. It always looks so shiney and put together. And soooo blonde!! I also love Bridget's hair. Of course we know she wears extensions because she told us in an episode!
Current Install: 18" Bohyme 613 and 613/27 with Protac and LG!!
i dont rember the inf is infomercials... :( i wish i did! i love hollys hair from girls next dtore and sometime think they are clip ins. so it shows them going there- maybe they are. its werid because if you watch her hair sometimes its long and think then when she is just chillin out she ties it back and it back it is this little itty bitty thing- which is why i think clip ins. does he still sell clip ins?

Kristie, I totally remember those infomercials!! I though wow, I would
love that but I just couldn't imagine having to put them in or wearing
them everyday. How funny!! I also think it's great that Jessica Simpson
wants to show others how she looks great. She's sharing her secret.
Most women are so not like that!

I love the concept of "training wheels" for getting used to the experience of extensions. I remember a zillion years ago when Jose Eber (sp?) had those infomercials with his clip-in extensions. I sat, spellbound, wondering if I would be able to figure out how to do them right. Although I wanted them SOOOO badly, I never did purchase them because it just seemed so complicated. I was afraid to spend all that money for something that would end up just looking ridiculous. Jessica Simpson is being so open about wearing extensions, and offering a system designed to be easy to use for the beginner. I really respect her for making it okay to enhance your hair without feeling foolish, and for providing a non-daunting method to try extensions for the first time.
oh, and by the way, I just read somewhere - maybe here???? - that you can use velvet covered hot rollers on the vibralite hair with no damage done. Pretty cool
Which is exatly Ken's goal. To create great training wheels for women who want to try extensions and give them the confidence to step up as high as they want with the experience. He actually is helping the entire industry because he helps women be fearless about trying new things to look and feel better about themselves.
On this note, the reason I started with the whole extension thing to begin with was that it was only $55! I just wore mine again this weekend to a party and everyone was going crazy over them. The color matches perfectly and they are nice and thick. It really is the perfect accessory. If you haven't bought them already, run to hte store!!!!!

i have the ken paves hairuwear vibralite set and I love them. I spent about $55 for the whole set and you cannot tell it is fake hair. It's even better than the real hair I got a week ago. I am very happy with it and would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to take baby steps into the realm of extensions.
Not sure about the give-a-way...that was through HairUWear so I am not sure if you won but if it is still out there...I hope you do win. :-)
Thanks for the feedback.
Yes...it is a fascinating story. I have so many about Ken that I have collected over the past years I need to put them all together sometime.
One little tidbit that I tease him about....he often hangs up on me. Not on purpose but often he is calling from planes, trains and automobiles going who knows how fast. In fact, I used to sign my emails to him...Click Dial Tone....which became .....Click because he would talking to me and the phone would just go dead.
It is a running joke now. He also calls me KS and I call him KP. He has nicknames for everyone including Jess.
What a fun guy. I am lucky to have him as my friend. And his mom is a total doll. I want her to adopt me. :-)

Karen, thank you so much for the inside report! That information is just as valuable to read as technical information and "how to"s.
If people do decide to buy their clip-ins, they'll feel comfortable knowing that they were developed by someone who really put time and energy into it and wanted to create a quality product. And, that the people behind the scenes are good people.
I signed up for their drawing for a free set of clip-ins a couple months ago, but I don't think I won.
Actually, the "hair extension" story about Jessica & Ken will be in the November/December issue of 101 Celebrity Hairstyles on newstands in the next 2-3 weeks (Barnes & Noble). There will be a little "insert" booklet that talks about hair extensions with regard to Ken and Jessica & how to snap them on and how to care for them.
I am very excited about this project since it allowed me to share Ken's vision for empowering the average woman to wear her hair "as an accessory".
By the way, the Jessica hair is selling out quickly here at HB and already we are getting feedback that is glowing from people that never were willing to try add-ons or clip-ons before and are amazed at how easy they are. Even some of our phone guys bought hair for their girlfriends which is just so sweet. :-)
Our only problem now is that we have sold out of some of the most popular colors and it is hard to get more at this point. :-)

Karen, thanks so much for telling this story! I love hearing about
extensions and the stories behind them. It would be great to post this
story in a magazine! People are really thrilled with hair extensions
these days. The taboo is starting to fade.
I have been indirectly involved in Jessica Simpson hair for about 4 1/2 years.
When I first met Ken Paves in Dallas 4 1/2 years ago....he was doing a photo shoot with Jess for 17 Magazine. I spent 2 1/2 days with him and Jess and OMG, he had to change her hair so many times. I was exhausted watching him.
He had a ton of wigs and hair extensions prepared in advance to speed up the process but it took him a really long time even with advanced cutting, curling, styling.
Ken is from a small town outside of Detroit and he has a very special bond with his mom and his family. He is definitely a big name in the hair world but he is a very kind and loving person who gives so much to charity to help people and he adores women.
Especially everyday peope that struggle to look nice.
About 2 1/2 years ago he asked me to help him find a wig manufacturer that would take his invention which is patented for making clip on hair that he developed. What he discovered was that if he attached the hair extensions to a half lace style cap, he could easily snap them into the hair so that it would be very quick.
He fine tuned the process over the years and took the design to HairUWear. They were thrilled because it was a brand new "easy to install in a snap" technology built on a very lightweight "cap" type of system that has a lot of great advantages.
One of the other reasons he wanted to invent the cap system was because he found that a lot of women who bought the 10 piece POP systems would still go to the hairdresser to have them installed.
The majority of women are NOT like you guys here and they either don't have time to really understand their options or they are just not into it. So they would buy the POP human hair extensions in the 10 piece kits and they would take them to their hairdressers and pay to have them put in.
Ken felt that was crazy because he wanted consumers to have the freedom to easily and quickly put these pieces in at home.
So he took the soft half cap concept one step further and looked at making it into a system. I know the HairUWear "hair designer" that worked with Ken and Jessica. They wanted to offer both synth and human hair and they wanted to be the highest possible quality for the price. They worked with the HUW designer very very closely to design the pieces from scratch. They spent so many days and weeks on this project you can't believe.
They literally looked at hundreds and hundreds of hair examples, colors, styles until they agreed on the initial 5 offerings and the initial colors.
In April they did a behind the scenes photo shoot with Ken and Jessica and Jessica's great dog Daisy (I want to steal her) and HairUWear was there with all the executives and the hair designer and they brought bags and bags and bags of hair.
Ken was partial to HairUWear because as a celebrity stylist he had worked with many many different companies and always went back to Great Lengths. He liked the quality of their hair, their customer service and they would work with him on new ideas.
Consequently he and Jessica (and yes, she was involved every step of the way) signed for the new line with HairUWear (they also own Great Lengths).
The HairDo line is just the first phase. There is a second line coming out.
The human hair is the absolutely highest quality they could find to offer at the best possible price considering all the factors involving the designs and other issues. The synth is also the highest quality that they could offer for the price and what it is.
Trust me...Ken is very very very picky. I mean he is a perfectionist and he and Jessica had 100% say over what went to market. This took over 1 1/2 years to come to pass.
At the photo shoot in April in Hollywood I was allowed on set as the only media person. I watched the models use the pieces and they all loved it.
So for Ken's goals to offer the average woman the opportunity to have a foolproof system (and it literally snaps on in 5 minutes or less) that looks good, it meets what he was trying to do.
And yes, the price may be high compared to what you guys could do for yourself but considering that women used to buy POP human hair and then still have to pay a hairdresser, they can bypass that whole step.
The human hair pieces are gorgeous. Very nice hair and I tried the synth and it is very nice compared to other synth that I have had.
But yes...bottom line...it is not for DIYers of the expertise you guys have. It is for the girl next store that wants to wear these type of hair systems but doesn't want to spend time researching.
Since Ken and Jessica have their name on this product, they are very very concerned about how the product is sold and the customer care behind it.
The main reason that HB.com is carrying the product is very specifically because Ken asked me to. Originally I was not going to take the product since I have never had an interest in selling hair of any kind through HB.com.
We are known for our hair accessories and that is my passion. But he asked me personally as a favor to him and Jessica (who is also my friend) and I could not say no to him.
Ken and I have been through a lot of things together and like with any close friend, I would try to honor their requests.
I also carry Robert Hallowell's hair care line in my store because he is a dear friend as well. The line is small and it has a very niche market but I keep it for him to help promote him.
So that is the whole story about HairDo and the whys and wherefores.
Hope that gives you all interesting "behind the scenes" insights.
By the way...I have a few photos that have never been released from that "private Jessica/Ken" shoot and once I get Ken's permission, I will be sharing them.
Tina Simpson was there at the private shoot and she is the nicest woman on the planet. And yes, Jessica is really a doll. She has done some very kind things for me and is a very sweet person.

i do cinderell all the time. the old ones are gummy- the new ones- ones i just did today are not. i use them on clients and right now myself because they have awesome blonde shades. do you think maybe you stylist is not using real cinderella hair? do you see it come with the cinderella tags on it? i had a client once who thought she had gl- they were not. i always show my clients the hair coming out of the package so they know they are getting what they paid for. here is a good clue on if it is cinderela. there bonds come out with alcohol. not acetone. gummy ones come out with acetone- so try it and see.
