I agree with lady esquire!! The scarf method of smoothing out new growth when wearing hair in buns really does work!!Thumbs%20Up apply a bit of moisturizer before wrapping for shine.

sakura hit all of the major points,
i went natural for a 12-month period last year.
washing more often and co-washing were both essential to the health of my hair.
deep-conditioning on a regular basis, at least once a week was also great.
concentrating on the ends is one of the most important things to keep in mind.
moisturizing twice a day with oil or water-based moisturizers and then sealing in the moisture with oils is a great habit to form during your new journey.
buns are great, if you can pull it off with the new growth.  best way to flatten out buns is to use the scarf method.  wear it 15-30 minutes before you go out and it does the trick.
sleep on satin to protect hair from snagging.
good luck....
i cornrowed my hair a lot.

Hey Lorlor, First of sorry for the delayed reply. I made a long one last night and it was lost before i could post and it made me angry so I didnt retype it.

First I'd recommend treating your hair gently. Comb from the ends to the roots with a wide tooth comb while there is still conditioner in it. If you have tangles don't just yank them out, that causes unnecessry breakage and damage to already fragile hair. Don't put ponytails to tight because that can also cause breakage.

I would also say keep your hair, escpically your ends moisturised. Some chose a creamy moisturizer and seal with an oil, others just use oil, and still some people use intensive moisturizing treatments. You can either make a treatment or buy your own, my personal favorite is A SMT found here http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=14635 I use a combination of both and it seems to work well for me. Find out what works best for you.

Style wise I would say use protective styles, where the hair isn't out and suscpetable to more damage. Buns, Braids, Twist, updos are all great. I can't think of anymore off the top of my head.

Another thing that isn't something physical you can do is just be happy with your hair. It won't always do what you want but its still beautiful. I've learned personally that frizzy isn't always bad, its a fact of life as a curly girl.

You might want to check out these sites too.

http://motowngirl.com/index.php this is a good site for general natural hair care and transitioning information.
http://www.longhaircareforum.com/home.php an active fourm with lovely dedicated women. This is a more active board so you will get a lot of out it.
www.longhaircommunity Is another hair fourm. it is not strickly african-american. they have lots of great hair advice as well as other advice if you choose to check out the other fourms. (This is where I hang out most.)

Umm that's all I can think of right now. BUt If you have any questions feel free to Pm me. And I wish you the best of luckThumbs%20Up

Well- i personally never transitioned. But some of my internet buddies did. Some flatironed their hair, others wore braids or twists, others wore full or half-wigs. You have lots of options.

For the first half of my life I wore my hair naturally with no problem nut when I was around 8 or 9 I got a relaxer put in and Ive been wearing my hair relaxed ever since. The problem is that I want to stop relaxing my hair and grow it out naturally agian because even though my hair stays really long I dont think its as strong or healthy as it could be (some of my friends say its because Im mixed and my hair isnt knappy enough...???) and I also just want a new look. So far I have about a half inch to an inch of new growh and I dont know how to wear my hair in the process of growing it out. Its really frizzy and Im not liking it right now so please can someone give me suggestions on any hair styles i could wear or any products I should use during this process!!! Thanks 2 the ppl who took the time 2 read this extra long post :D
