QuoteReplyTopic: Microring on Weft how to? Posted: December 03 2006 at 12:47pm
I am currently doing microrings on a weft. Microrings with tips are not going to be a single strand method. I love the results of them on the weft but that's because protac does not last in my hair & gets sticky & globby. If you search for microrings on the weft you will see a tutorial. If you do not buy them already sew on the weft then you buy clear necklace thread (like fishing line, thought fishing line would work great) and you take double or triple weft & sew on the links every say 1 inch if your hair weft if your hair is thick & strong, I do around 1/2 inch on the outsides & inch towards the back. I bind the wefts together with liquid gold but also when sewing on the rings I sew through the wefts to hold them together. I only do these for the bottom 2 layers but I have thinner hair. I use synthetic so I do not recommend triple weft with rings because I feel it would be too heavy.
I wore mine for about six weeks before removing but it's because I have finer thinner hair and don't want to push damage since your shedded hair is stuck in it. I recommend the silicone rings from sherrie, sherrie is great with supplies and they are a better quality than dr locs in my opinion, to avoid hair damage. Cheap microrings will damage your hair in a heartbeat, regular ones you can clamp, smush open and reclamp, some cheap ones fold over and it's a nightmare. Not one of the ones sherrie sent me fold.
As far as the amount of hair this varies from individual to individual, since you have think hair I think I would order 8 oz to be safe, you can always save the extra. I wear synthetic so can't help you out with the hair question.

Hello, I'm an extension virgin! Whew yes I said it. lol & I had a few questions to ask . . . I came across this forum & think you ladies rock! SO so very informitive! I've been reading for a good 2 hours & had a lot of my questions answered but any hooo . . .
Okay first the hair . . .
My natural hair is frizzy and poofy when it's dry not really a curl just frizz, if I put something in it (gel, sculpting cream, frizz ease) it'll curl, BUT it's super thick. Now I was thinking of using the Bohyme from extension 101 F/R seems pretty and from what I've read everyone seems to LOVE it! But from what I described do you think it'll "blend" with my natural hair? Rite now I basicaly never wear it "curly" it's straight or I straighten it then do big bobby pin curls in it. So how does the F/R straighten out? The only reason I dont want to go with the S/S is because I want to have the option to go "natural". Would one of the other textures be better for me?
Second the amount of hair. . .
Like I said, I have super thick hair. I get it thined by my stylist but you would never know. So do you think I would need more than the 8oz? Or is the F/R full enough for just the standard 8oz?
Then the installation method . . .
First off I'm gonna do it at home, I live on maui (If you couldn't tell by my tag ) and basicaly there is NO ONE who does extensions here! Okay no there are just not the micro links type. I dont want to do fusion <- damage? But I would love love to do the strand-by-strand with micro links but I'm worried bout the after care. I'll so do the making/pretipping my self. But my sister is gonna do the instal for me when she comes home for x-mas break . . . I con'd her in to agree'n by paying 1/2 her fare to come home So that wouldn't be the prob just when I have to go back and tighten them and so on. I really want the 22" (yah I know; no slow & steady for me just straight to the top!) microlinks would prolly blend better huh? If I did do it the single strand method how long about do you think they would last? How often to tighten? Would it make a diff between the single and weft? What do you expert ladies think? So I was thinking that I did the weft method it would be easier for me once she's gone and all . . . If any one has tried do'n a weft with microlinks? Can you tell me the results? Or EVEN better how did you go about it? But any imput at all from you ladies would be fabulous!
