Yeah, I think the same.  Usually when lightened hair fades, it usually goes lighter.  Sounds like you have copper or iron in your water.  A clarifying shampoo would definitely get that out, but it may also remove some of the ashy tone in your hair and make it more yellowy or orangy if those shades are still in there.

You may want to instead try a dilute vinegar rinse...that may get enough of the minerals out and you may not have to clarify, which would be more harsh than the dilute vinegar.  (Use about a tablespoon of vinegar, any kind, in 1 cup of water and pour it over your head after you're done washing and conditioning...the smell will evaporate as your hair dries).

If either one effects your color in a way you don't like, you'll have to get it redone, but then next time you can buy distilled / bottled water and do your final rinse with that so you won't get buildup and won't ruin your color.

I posted here a while ago asking for some advice on lightening my hair to light brown. Well, I finally decided just to try something so I went to Sally's and I was recommended some products and what I should do.

I was given an Ion Hi-Lift Ash Blonde dye using a 40 vol developer and told to leave it in until I reached by desired color. My natural is dark brown/black, and after 15-20 minutes I had to take it out because my hair was so light. It was definitely light brown/dark blonde, not perfectly "ashy" looking as it had some hint of orange/red. Just a tiny bit, and I actually liked the look. Even when wet, it looked light.. my coworker described it as "Burnt Blonde."

The first couple days I was like whoa, this looks weird, but then I fell in love with it.

Its been about two weeks or so and I've been washing my hair as normal using shampoo/conditioner as well as a little bit of gel. The last couple of days it seems like my hair has gotten way darker. Now when my hair is wet it looks dark as opposed to before when it was lighter.

It seems like it has gotten ashier. But it only gives the impression of light hair under adequate light, as opposed to previously where it looked light even without a lot of light. I mean, how is this possible? Did the color fade or something? I miss the old color.

Thanks!
