QuoteReplyTopic: help with hair choice Posted: February 08 2005 at 12:55pm
hey, this is a pic of my hair before I was stupid and cut it. I want this same amount of body, not curly, but not straight. (please realize it isn't fixed, and no makeup on so forgive the pic) But I keep looking at all these hair sites, and I am about to give up because the hair is either too straight, too curly, or I am unsure because it is synthetic, or unsure bc it is real, (therefore too expensive) I was hoping if someone is bored, and lookin for somethign to do, they may wanna help me?? please??!! I am happy with the hair pieces I have that are synthetic (kanakelon, or however you spell it) so I don't mind that, I don't think...and acutally, as I sit here typing somethign just occured. Since it is the first time, and I have a big vacation in late april, I should plan on changing the hair before then anyway, so should go with the least expensive choice shouldn't I. And it won't need to last a really long time, so the human hair isn't necessary.
Ok so leaning towards synthetic definitely...the most recommended company is plastikhair...right??
how do I pick the color without a color chart. I know the pics on the puter screen aren't reliable. I can dye my hair to match the hair when it comes. Either lighten or darken a bit, so I guess it isn't a big deal...
and one more thing. Going with the shrinkies. kalika convinced me of that with those pics. look so good, you can hardly tell even going to the part. kick ass....so, for the first time, will my flat iron be sufficient? I figured I would rather not invest too much, can always buy docs later if I see that they in fact are hot, and I do want to keep doing them. I heard that there are a few problems with the conair flatiron, and in fact I think I already asked this, so forgive me if you are answering it a second time.
k, think that is it for now lol. got my card in hand and wanna buy, so thanks for any help before I come out of this experiment poorer and uglier.
oooh good to know aeone. And thanks for the heads up on the wine, since along with cooking with wine, I pretty much like to do everything else with it too. BUT the other half with a penis will be the one doing the work, so I guess I can count in my bottle of chardonnay for that night too
lol - no, my husband put them in for me, and he's a stickler for perfection ;)
i noticed metalgirl said on the shrinkie litigation thread, that she uses a conair trix stix for her M.B. shrink link installs - and those are only what, a 100 watts?
i'd steer clear of the wine, tho ...you don't want to accidentally jack up your hair! :(
The swatches on the color chart are -approximately- accurate. I mean, if it looks blue on the color chart, it won't be red when it gets to you. :) It's just hard to distinguish between shades, and to that end, it's a good idea to talk to someone with a color ring to "reality check" the shades- like "Is Mokka a warm brown or an ash brown?" or the ever-popular "What shades of blonde are lighter than 613?" Sara (the head honcho of Plastikhaar) is incredibly helpful via email (sara at plastikhaar.ch) and seems happy to look up shades for customers. You can also ask a PH customer who has a color ring, such as me or...leia, I think? Who else was it that has a PH ring? Anyway, I and the other color-ring-having person are glad to look up colors for people and tell them what they look like in real life.
As far as synth goes, by the way, there's many other quality brands, such as Trimco, Dome, ProStyles, and Hairaiser (though no empirical tests have been done to discover how PH compares to the other brands- I'll be doing that in a bit.) PH gets a fair bit of publicity on here right now because it's the least expensive and has the most colors in its system. But if you'd like to know where to get any of those others, I have all their web addresses and color rings for some, so lemme know.
Rae, I have a PH color ring on order but it's just the natural shades ring. Also, I ordered a mixed bag of Trimco hair from hair police based on your excellent suggestion on the other board. Thanks for that, btw.
I can't see your picture; the image is coming across broken right now.
As far as the shrinkies, that sound like a good idea. Just keep in mind that how far you can go to the part will also depend on your hair type. Kalika has thick hair, for example, so she can probably camoflague shrinkies better than most, even if they are that far up. With thin, flat, limp hair, like mine, I'd keep them at least 1 1/2 inches away from the part. I'm sure you'll figure it out as you go, though.
maybe it will work as a link. wierd, it comes and goes.
thanks for the heads up on the info on the hair. I will send a piece to match, good idea.
It is pretty darn short right now. back is about an inch and a half at shortest top at 4 and sides about 2 or so at the shortest
The wavy synthetic doesn't hold curl real well, isn't that what I have seen a few of you say before? Or is it just that after you wash it you need to re set the curl??
Well, I think you have to reset it after washing, but maybe not after each washing (I'll let someone with more experience chime in here). A lot of us have ordered 50mm, too, which is the loosest wave, so maybe the hair stays wavier if you order a tighter curl. A lot of human hair, imo, doesn't hold its wave well, either. :)
rae, you mentioned a few other synths. The color i am going for is a warm brown. The important features to me would be the same to most, no (minimal) tangling and looks. as natural as possible, I don't like shine. I don't really know what else to worry about. It only needs to last around 6 weeks. If that helps any adviceor links appreciated.
i am thinking the color match shouldn't be hard, avg shade of brown should blend with any shades that aren't too dark or light.

SqueezetheShaman do you know what color your hair is based on a standard hair extension color ring? That might help to narrow plastikhaars color choices down a bit. Once you do that then Id probably pick 3 or 4 shades to mix together to get a nice blend.
I can't see your photo to compare the color but the bottom hair that's labeled as straight is Plastikhaar's "Mandel"color. It's a beautiful brown. The flash gives the hair extreme shine but it looks no different than very healthy human hair. Really. It's stunning to look at.
As far as the wave goes, the 28mm relaxes down to 50mm wave with just one wash. I tried the hot water trick and it stays about 50mm.
