Relaxer didnt take

When I was younger, my mother put PCJ in my hair again not even four weeks after my very first touch-up was done at the salon, which was a PCJ. Nothing bad happened, but then again, that was a kiddie perm, and my hair was completely virgin when I got the PCJ put in my hair at the salon. In general, I`d would think of it as a "no-no" because the second time around could cause hair breakage, but I am no expert.

So how did your hair turn out? Was it your first time ever getting a perm?

Actually my hair has been relaxed for years now and originally I started out with a lye relaxer but because my scalp is so sensitive I couldnt stand the burning so my hairdresser changed me over to a no lye relaxer called Precise which worked well for me for 4 years but now when I use it my hair reverts back to its wavy texture just 1-2 after my touch-up and then I experience alot of breakage because my hair is not relaxed and the hair cuticle isnt lying flat enough. I also hear no lye perms are extremely damaging because they dry your hair out more. For the most part my hair is healthy and luckily I didnt get enough breakage to actually take off any hair length (my hair is a couple of inches past my shoulders) but I dont want to go through this again. I guess I`ll wait until about 6 weeks since this last no lye disaster and then go to a salon and have the lye perm put in by a professional. What do you guys think?

That`s a good idea. Six weeks is a good waiting period. The stylist may not want to apply the perm to all of your hair, but they may definitely apply it to the new growth, so it won`t be a waste of time going. Since you`ve had perms before, and in such a short time frame, I don`t think it would have a been a good idea to get the perm placed on your entire head anyway. That would have been extremely risky. And don`t let the "no-lye" name fool you. A perm is a perm, and whether it has lye in it or not, if not put in properly, it can cause regretttable damage.

Seek a good stylist and while you are there, question him/her about the differences between no-lye perms and lye perms, and which ones work better for your hair. Then, make sure that you examine what perm they are putting in your hair so that you can research it later and continue to use it if it takes exceptionally well. I don`t know if I would directly ask a stylist, "What`s are the best relaxers??" Because honestly, some stylists may not want to tell you the truth because they want you to keep coming back to them. I`m not saying they are all like that, because I know they are not. My stylist is not afraid to tell me what I need to put in my hair at home or what to do with it, because she knows that her concern only makes me trust her more. She`s not afaid of me not coming back once she has told me all of her secrets. I`ve been to so many stylists in my lifetime, that I know what some of their intentions are.
