Well, you wouldn't necessarily have to have them be heat-seals; my point is that they're so un-piecey because they're so small. Teeny-weeny pinchbraids would have the same effect.

I was thinking similarly but Rae seems to have covered it.  then you wouldn't have to give up Issac.

mmm so many options.  and only so many installs per year to try them...

That's why it takes a whole board to cover them all!

Regarding weaves:

Right now my two bottom rows are weaves and the rest are pinchbraids. The only reason I have weaves on the bottom is for the extra length on the human hair and because I have this habit of constantly picking my hair out of my pinchbraids. I agree with all the comments about weaves damaging your hair more and also being more difficult to style. I still wear my hair in pigtails and ponytails, but I'm not really concerned with concealing my extensions, but I do prefer pinchbraids showing instead of wefts. Even with the HairPolice technique, where extra hair is added to the cornrow and it's anchored in spots, it can still cause damage...especially on bleached hair. Personally, I prefer the piecey look on myself...I get frustrated when the weft parts wont separate like the rest of my hair.

Jenny: I think your hair looks great, and I agree that making the braids smaller would probably help. :)

Jenny, your hair does look great and Issac is awesome!

But, I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of pinchbraids.  They are too big.  Bridget used to do my hair years ago with loose human hair using the 4 box braid, spirit gum, and heat sealed it with synth.   Then I got my hair done by hairpolice and I'm not as crazy about string as much as I am with the heat seal.

Jenny, the upside is that pinchbraid is retightening and reusable; whereas heat seal is disposable hair.  So basically it is what's most important to you.

I vote heat seal over string {my hair, my opinion}.  Plus synth hair is soooooo cheap!

All my best, Charlene

Also...keep in mind that everyone seems to do their own different sizes on pinchbraids, box braids, etc. You can ask to have them made smaller and your stylist should be able to make them as small as you like...it'll just take a bit longer. I'm sure if you ask, your stylist would work with you to figure out what works best for you...pinchbraids don't have to be big.  :)

Gosh!  Im so going to install PH in my own hair!  I can't believe how beautiful the hair looks at 9 weeks  as its much better than standard HH would look like around 9 weeks.

Only 1 thing.  Whats involved in a blow out?

That's when the pinchbraid slides out of the hair, or somehow comes unravelled.

Shel: Actually, when I said "blow out," I was just talking about blowing the ends of the synth hair smooth, which is really easy and you'll probably find helpful at some point while wearing synth. Doc's tutorial is excellent: http://www.drlocks.net/straightsilkybraid/index.htm

Alexia: It's 50% Dome and 50% PlastikHaar, although I just got a new install yesterday of 100% PlastikHaar (will post photos soon). My real hair is a total mess: It's anywhere from 2 to 6 inches long, depending on the part of head, but I had massive damage after hairlocs and GLs, and now my hair underneath the braids is growing out well. (The hair on top of my head has always been much more prone to breakage and is a nightmare.)

:)

Well, I get pinchbraids, but you can use virtually any method with it: heat-seals, shrinkies, or extendtubes. Whatever you prefer. If you're getting them done in a salon, I would opt for pinchbraids or heat-seals. If you're DIY, I would order shrinkies or extendtubes.
