Hey I really need your help.

I have dyed my hair dark auburn wayy 2 many times trying to get the right color and I have damaged it badly to where it wont take to permanent dye anymore. I made the biggest mistake yesterday by dyeing my hair again with feria and I just bought a box of colorfix. The past hour I have learned that Colorfix will not work on hair that has been dyed with feria and the best way to fix this problem is to let the natural color grow out. My hair grows very very slowly and I have been trying to grow my hair long for 3 years now. Knowing that I have to cut off the damaged hair I need advice on what to do during the long process of regrowing my hair without being ugly and bald. I have no idea what to do. What is your advice? I read some post of where you actually had chemical damage to your hair and you started over. Im willing to do w/e it takes including even shaving my head, getting a wig, and when my hair gets long enough, getting pinch braid extensions. What do you think? Is there a better solution? Thanx if u have any advice for me.

Depressed over hair,

AlexiA

is Feria a metal based dye?

cause I'm pretty sure that's the only restriction on colorfix...

arghhh I really thought feria was a normal dye.  did you get it at the drugstore or the BSS?

I'd swear when I got it at the BSS it was just a normal run of the mill dye

I don't know if you've gone there, but the Go Blonde message boards have tons and tons of good dying and color removal info there.  Ric the Chemist (i think that's his name) seems to know everything.

Ill go look for the url

Well, its a dark dark auburn with medium brown streaks (ugly ). The brown streaks r a result of faded auburn that wont take 2 dye anymore. Basically, I wanted to use the color remover to start from scratch with getting as close as possible to my natural color and testing a strand to see if dye would take to it again. The reason why it got to this point was because it would never dye the color I wanted and attempting to get that color caused damage and I cant do anything to it anymore! Also, I used pantene 4ever and that also contributed to not being able to do anything to my hair. My hair feels ok but its stick straight and wont hold a curl and wont hold permanent dye. I just think if I cant remove the color I am just going to shave my head and start over . I just dont see a good way to deal with the damage I have caused my hair. I guess I was stupid then and thought that if I didnt bleach my hair it would be perfectly fine... I guess it will be worth it starting over right. Being humiliated for half a years worth it right? I'll find a solution some way.. Thank God for wigs and extensions =)

okay two new questions.

if you would be willing to shave your head why not try the colorfix (though a strand test couldn't possibly hurt and might help).

umm i often am quite ignorant so please educate me.  what is wrong with using pantene?

oOo, of course i would try the colorfix first =P dont get me wrong =).

Salons strongly discourage pantene because it actually coats your hair so it feels soft and silky to the touch. It eventually weighs down your hair so much that it wont have volume or ability to be style. They said it can be helped if you start using a good cleanser like their salon products(and even if they were only trying to sell their products my hair did exactly what they said pantene eventually does to hair.) Im not sure the exact chemical affect but I decided to discontinue the use of pantene and it has helped somewhat.

errr my head itches =P

invest in a stockpile of 6-12 wash colors.

loreal has some new ones out and clairol still makes loving care.  they don't always give yout he exact result you want but they don'tacuse any damage.

and start the trimming.  inevitably the ends are in worse shape than the roots...

also you should know that even if the colorfix works, you may still have trouble getting your hair to an even color.

Those metallic dyes are horrible to get out.I'm so sorry this happened to you.I have been there myself and understand how traumatic it can be.I'm no expert by any means. But I am curious how your hair feels. Is it still soft at all or is to the point where it feels like straw.Hopefully the softer cause the latter is the point of no return. The reason I shaved my head was because it was like straw but i had chemical damage all the way up my roots. How long is your hair.Is it possible to maybe just get some of the length cut off.You could always wear clip ins.I understand shaving isnt always an option. And I wouldnt reccomend it unless as a last resort cause I know how important hair can be to people.I know some people have had good results with colorfix.Usually lighter haired people. But I always just ended up patchier than when I started. If you really want to save your hair get a cut at a good salon. You will really need to baby it for awhile.Lots of deep conditioning. No heat or chemicals.I am no stylist.I would love to give you quality advice.I wish I knew more personally.I hope you find something that works for you.Good luck

The major reason salons tell you not to use Pantene is because you can buy it in any supermarket or drugstore. It's very much like the products you can buy in salons.

Too much silicone products will lead to buildup. Buildup is worst when you use multiple silicone products (like anti-frizz leave-ins you don't rinse out) and you use harsh shampoos to remove them, which strip the hair and make future buildup harder to remove. You can remove buildup or prevent it by rinsing with a solution of 1/2 cup vinegar in 1 quart of warm water. I've used Pantene every wash since last summer, and I haven't seen any problem.

Just looking for a few good hair slaves - is that too much to ask?

Hey thanx 4 replying =). I have naturally dark blonde so my natural is alot lighter so mayb that helps. Also, it did feel very straw like when I went to a good salon when they messed up my hair instead of fixing it but eventually I conditioned it enough so its not as bad. The problem is I have been dying my whole head constantly every 6 weeks and even less for at least 3 years(I know this is outragiously terrible and stupid =P) My hair is considered long.. I think its about 5- 6 inches past my shoulder? not sure but its close. I just dyed my hair yesterday with feria and the damage all the way up.(Im still beating myself up over dying my hair w/ feria, let alone in the first place..) The worst damage is from 1/2" past my roots all the way down. Its pretty bad . I do have 8 ounces of clip ins that I use, and the problem was that the clip ins were my desired color and attempting to match that color I damaged my hair to this point. Good newz: they match after the feria dye! heh bad newz is everything else. oOo well, cant worry about it, all I know is I hav 2 get this fixed before my hair starts breaking off again from the salon visit. Thanx for ur input =)

do you think the best way to deal with this is to use mayb clip ins or pinch braids and just cut off w/e is not covering the wefts or braids? And for the color just a blend of both?

trim slowly,  maybe an inch at a time.

do you have sallys?

they carry this stuff called aphogee treatment.  it is kinda the consistency of beaten eggs and you pour it on your hair and bake it on.

I had some serious damage issues and this at least got it feeling better.  Good clip ins that you can get really high up your head should help as a coverup job too.

I think you can go higher with wefts or clip ins than anything else.  and the higher you go the more you can hide.  that way you can go slowly on the trmming to see if you can recover anything on the length.

What you need to do is get some bleach. I would use paul mitchell if you could.. Use one scoop of bleach and use 5 dev.. if you cant find five u can make it.. Use 20 dev and mix 1/2oz of water to 1/2oz dev.. that will give you ten close enough.. anyway use 1 scoop to 1 oz dev to 1 oz shampoo.  mix all that together and shampoo that on your head.. it should take less than 10 min that will stop what ever is going on.. I promis.. If you want it to lighten just leave it on longer.. make sure you use good bleach no sh*tty stuff.. YOU USE sh*tTY HAIR COLOR YOU WILL GET sh*tTY RESULTS MOST OF THE TIME SOME OF YOU ARE LUCKY..

I overdyed my hair this winter and did this.  Once a week I did the bleach and shampoo and developer thing like Kris said, leaving it on for 10 minutes, and two times a week I washed with Dawn dish detergent and then conditioned with VO5 hot oil.  My hair faded really well in about two monthes.

I took it slow to give my hair a chance to recover inbetween abuses.

Dawn is magic at getting color to fade.

I have used Malibue pakets to remove color to some extent with out damaging the hair . they are made to remove minerals and chlorine but in doing that we discovered it also lightens color. you mix the pakets with warm water bag and go under dryer. What is your natural color? If you are not lightning and just adding red use semi or demi color instead. I use permanet color on roots only .Fill in with other.
