Hi there...
I found this place after doing a Google search for nonsurgical thinning hair help, and read the interview with Barbara. I was quite surprised she so heartily recommended extensions for thinner hair (I say thinner, not thinning because although in bright light my scalp is visible, hair is not falling out.) Probably as I age, it will thin more, but it's not rapid at this point. BUT I am self-conscious. When I e-mailed Barbara, my mails bounced. Is she a real person there? Is she trying to sell the products or does she really have a method that works with thinning hair? (i.e. not a huge bulk of hair on top to cover extensions at the crown or top of head) I'm wondering if the methods have gotten better and the bonds are different now.
I would LOVE any help or advice any of you ladies have to share with me. Below is the e-mail I tried to send but to no avail! Thanks so much!
Hi Barbara--
I read the interview you did online after searching for solutions for my thin hair, and it intrigued me enough to ask a few questions that I hope you have time to answer. I've always had thin hair. It's not balding, but for the past ten years (I'm 45), my scalp more visible than I'd like, especially in bright sunlight. With my profession I am in the public eye often, and am VERY self-conscious about it. I have above-shoulder length wavy hair that looks thicker than it is, but it's the thinning on top that bothers me. Day to day, I hardly lose any hairs, so it's stable where it's at. Years ago (6?) I had extensions for a year or so, but was told it could be used just for length because the little plastic thingies that are heated to attach the hair to your hair can be too easily seen where hair is thin. I think they were black or clear and about a quarter inch in length. So I had the thickness and length, but not on top where I most wanted it. So eventually, I stopped doing it. Now I read that you are recommending extensions for thinning hair? Is there a new technique that makes this a viable option for thinning hair? I can travel anywhere, anytime, but really would like to get some info from you first--how you are doing this to make it workable for thinning hair, alopecia, etc.
It is 4 links tied to 1 single strand of growing hair. If applied on the right candidate, then the look is fullness without a hairpiece or system. They are not for everybody so I suggest looking into a nearby retailer in your area.
Wow, thank you! Thanks for the MP link. (love your website, by the way--you do cool, very artistic work). I had never heard of Micropoint, obviously, but it does seem promising, if a little time consuming (every 3-4 weeks as opposed to 2-3 for months for regular extensions--meaning I'll have to find something here in the Bay Area or Sacramento Valley). 2 questions: How big are the "beads" that hold the hair. I'm wondering how visible they'd be. Also, can you color or blow dry the "cyberhair"? It sounds like they don't use anything else but this synthetic with the links, and I know you can't color or blow dry faux hair wigs (or so I was told) but maybe this is a whole different thing. I have blond highlights in my medium brown hair.
Hisue- Yes it is very time consuming. The average stylist can install 600-900 links in 1 hour. 2000 is what my client has currently. He comes in every 2 months. Some clients come in every 6 months and some come in every month. These are permanent and will shed once your own hair reaches the telogen phase cycle.
These are not beads. They are a knot. Check out my website for further info. Click 'hair loss solutions' and you can see the size of the knot- very unnoticable- in my opinion.
Yes, you can color and blow dry or wash and go. The cyber is colorfast but only to a certain level. The best thing for you is the consult with a retailer and they can give you some links for free. That's what I do to all my clients, just so they can see and feel before they commit.
Hisue, you might also want to PM metalgirl. She's in the
Sacramento area and has a bit of experience with thin hair.
(You'll find her posts scattered throughout the extension board and
this is her site: http://metamorphosishairdesign.com/services.htm)
Charlene, that knot IS tiny! Wow. Thanks for posting the pic. and also for letting me know about PM metalgirl. I went to her site and loved what she had to say. She sounds quite experienced--and local, yay. I'll contact her and see what she can tell me about this method (or others)
