brassy ash blonde

Hello everyone!

I have been using the Goldwell Topchic range for years now to get my hair from a natural level 4 ash brown to a level 7 dark ash blonde. I use 10A with about 25 ml of Ash mix which gives me a gorgeous ashy colour for about a week and then it starts turning brassy with every wash. Topchic is meant to be a permanent colour, but i guess the ash mix isn't?! My question is, are there any other similar ash mixes that i can add to the hair colour that won't fade as quickly?

I think that you should try to maintain the color by using a semi permanent dark ash blonde toner every now and then.

Another option would be to double process, lift the hair to yellow then tone with a dark ash blonde toner. Then once it fades it won't look that brassy since you don't have so much underlying pigments left.

Why are you using 10A to go from a Natural Level 4 to a Desired Level 7? 10A is Level 10 Ash...much lighter than your desired level of 7. Also what volume developer are you mixing with that 10A? Also 10A does not provide any coverage for gray hair if you have any FYI.

Do you have any gray hair you are looking to cover? What you should do if you want to be a Level 7 and you are a level 4 and your using Goldwell Top Chic color is get some 40 Volume Developer to get the lift of 3 levels since you are going from a Lvl 4 to 7. Any other volume developer will not give you the lift to go from a 4 to 7. If you have gray hair you are looking to cover you can add some 7N to the mixture....it would go something like this depending on the amount of gray hair on your head.

Using 40ML of 40 Volume developer (The Top Chic is a 1:1 ratio of developer to color)

up to 30% gray - 15ml of 7N + 25ml 7A (or desired lvl 7 color)

31%-60% Gray - 20ml of 7N + 20ml 7A (or desired lvl 7 color)

61% and over -   25ml of 7N + 15ml 7A (or desired lvl 7 color)

The color doesn't provide the lift.....it's the developer that gives the lift to the target color.

Goldwell Developers:

10 Volume - up to 1/2 level of lift....used to tone most of the time

20 Volume - 1 Level of Lift

30 Volume - 2 Levels of Lift

40 Volume - 3 Levels of Lift

Blonding Cream - A booster that when added to developer can provide 1/2 to 1 level of additional lift.

Higher levels of Topchic (I think it was level 7-11) contains higher level of ammonia, than the lower levels. Therefore you'll get a little more lift from them..

I really think you should try 40 volume developer, cause if you use 40 vol instead of 30 vol, you will probably get a little more lift, which means that you'll have less underlying orange pigments that can make the hair look brassy..
