I don't really have any favorite clips but I was wondering....I have a question that kinda goes along with this topic....My hair is really long(thigh length) and really thick and I have a hard time finding hair styles that will work....braids, of course and then the good old pony tail! but, I can't really do the french twist and whenever I use hair sticks or other items like that, they don't really work. Does anyone know of any hair items that work really good on long, thick hair? Let me know!

welcome, horselover! Wow, your hair sounds kinda long
Lady Godiva (among others) have had great success with a "log roll" secured by a XL ficcare clip. (Lady G, you out there?)
I'm here, thanks for the nudge, Dave. Hi to horselover, too (from one who "rode a horse," heh heh).
My hair is floor length and thick. I wear log rolls as my most
basic hair style and affix them either with a Ficcare Maximus (Large -
they don't come in XL, darn it) or a large leather slide/wood pin tool.
Making log rolls is not hard, and they super fast, once you get the
hang of it. Start with a ponytail at the nape, though not tied
off with an elastic hair band. I simply twist my hair against
itself, working just over my left shoulder with my left hand. See my
demonstration photos from almost 7 years ago here
at TLHS, and you can see that my left hand holds the hair, which is
folded, really just twisted against itself. Then I lift this
mostly upward, and with my right hand, take the remaining length and
wrap it around/around/around the twisted portion until it's used up.
Wrap the hair in an upward direction so the ends are near the top of
the twisted part. Then simply press the roll against the back of
your head and use the Maximas or leather slide/wood pin to fix it right
there, catching some scalp hair, of course. This takes me about
30 seconds to do.
Another useful style is the alternate version of a Figure 8 bun, which
is called an Infinity bun. This requires just one hair stick, and I
assure you that it works. How I make it is, again, I start with
my hair twisted a bit at the nape, except I twist it as a rope, not
bending it against itself. I make two typical bun coils, with the
second coil directly on top of the first, not going around it
(larger/wider - no). I take the top coil and flip it over sideways, and
work the two coils into a proper infinity symbol. Then with my left
hand (thumb in left loop and index finger in the right loop), I pull it
slightly from my scalp, which leaves a little space between the
infinity symbol and my scalp hair. Of course it's connected at the
center X, which is what I work with next. I simply wrap the rest
of my hair's length around the X like a regular bun, going
around/around/around, flat against my head. Finally, I use a sturdy
wood hair stick and stick it into the right loop, underneath/thru while
grabbing scalp hair, and then it emerges thru the left loop. If you
place it low enough at the nape, this style should last all day.
Basically, you're making a leather slide-type barrette out of your own
hair to hold the rest of your hair up. It takes me about 2 minutes to
do this style.
Well that worked! Thanks Lady Godiva, I finally got a good
infinity bun! I read some other instructions for the infinity bun on
another site and they said to do your 2nd coil bees butt bun style
under the first, and that did not work at all. This looks much
better!

Ive noticed some hair jewellery is quite expensive & also that there is no Uk sites what sell these hair sticks. Im afraid i have no hair jewellery at all & i Definatly want some! does anyone know which is the best to go for?
If you want normal stuff like hair sticks etc. go to Clares. That's
where I get mine from. If you want pretties, you're probably best of
looking in craft fairs etc.
Go to Clares and Accesorize etc first though as they have lots of toys.

I'm glad for you! I prefer the look better, too. Most Figure 8s and
Infinity Buns look odd to me, usually like a stretched-out, flattened
Bee Butt Buns, because most people make the 8/infinity symbol as the
final step, pulling it out of a bun. I do the opposite, making the
symbol first, then wrapping behind it.

Lady Godiva - Do you have a picture of your hair? How long did it take to
grow it to the floor?
There are some photos (now nearly 7 years old) at TLHS, specifically here and here. Sorry there's nothing recent that can be found publicly. This is almost as old (top center photo under "Follicles", the Spider Woman). I have been growing my hair for 18 years.
Best!
