Help me *Mental Breakdown*

Lol lol, don't worry 200 should be plenty, especially if you have curly hair.  Just have a glass of wine (a small one lol).  The first row is the hardest, once you've done that you'll find its a lot easier to take your sections x

sometimes I use closer to 300 or even 350 (I think it's probably just my
hair type) it will be fun once you get it going, ok, I lied, but you will do it
all again in a heart beat once you see the result in the end!!

Brandiwine please let me know how you like the micro rings.  I am thinking about using them in my hair.  I am just a little concerned that they will get hot when I use the blowdryer.  Have you ever installed extensions before?  I have sewn weaves onto cornrow tracks but I have never used micro rings so I am nervous!  Good luck on your install!

I am surprised true virgin indian hair is bone straight.  I bought some from Extensions Plus that is the natural body and it matches my natural curl perfectly.  From what I have seen virgin bone straight is really hard to find, but I could be wrong.  So far with all the hair I have bought it has been much curlier after I wash and dry it.

The silicone microrings rule.  It is a little awkward at first but after a few rows you will be a pro.  I have only lost one strand in 6 weeks, I can't believe it!!!!  I can't work with the medium ones on myself, the large works better since I tend to pull out the middle of the silicone with the medium ones in areas I can't see very well.  Unfortunately I usually realize this after I have crushed it, so I have to remove it and start over.  My  hair is pretty curly so the rings aren't hard to hide, the large ones are a little bulkier than the unlined but well worth it.  With the regular unlined metal tubes I used before I lost 2 or 3 everytime I washed my hair, these are great!!

I tipped with E6000 which is silicone and I am very impressed.  They are holding up soooo much better than the ends of the hair I bought previously pre-tipped.

Good luck, but I would look into buying some naturally curly indian hair.....it is everywhere.

Naked eye, how do the rings compare to the pro-tac in coverage?  I am really interested in them, because unlike shrinkies, you don't have any residue to remove.  but I had a hard time hiding my shrinkies when ever I pulled my hair up into a pony, and I couldn't wear it pulled back in a barret either.

yea I think I'll get it naturally curly this time. The problem is, it's hard to find it in textures I like. I'm Black and want a texture that more or less matches mine b/c I love my own hair. It's just short and I'm growing it out after cutting off my relaxer. However, I don't find many tight curl virgin remy products, and if I do, they charge too much.

So alas I got it permed today and it set me back $75. That's expensive I wanted to do it myself, but I've never done one or seen one so I didn't wanna mess it up. So I take it to hair cuttery, I was glad the stylist said she'd do it b/c I called other places that wouldn't. So I showed her pics of what I wanted, even pulled a piece of my hair out of my ponytail and showed her. She said no problem. I also showed her some rods I thought would be good, and she said they were smaller than what I wanted. So I told her that I did a roller set with those same rollers and they came out bigger. She then told me that the rod she was gonna use (white) would hold the curl to that diameter b/c it's chemically altered.

So long story short, she does the service, and the curls are so big. My real hair is not this loose, and I don't want them to be. But ah well, u live and learn.

Also, I asked her questions, being curious and new to perms, about the chemicals etc. and I was so unimpressed about what she knew. She was like clueless about everything I asked her. Plus, I paid attention to how she cut the hair and rolled it etc. and she just didn't know what she was doing. THIS IS WHY I LOVE DIY!! I don't get it. Why is it that the so-called experts do as worse as you would? No offense to the many, very experienced stylists on this board, but it's frustrating to entrust your hair (real or paid for) to someone, and they act as if they've got a blindfold on and u spun them around three times before doing your hair. It seemed like I knew more than she did!! And I don't do hair as a profession.

Anyway, the hair is under the dryer. I'm scared it won't shrink up enough but I'll see. I'll post pics too. After that, I'm gonna get the silicone from the store and pretip, then install with these tiny wittle rings

Well it definitly doesn't look "permed" to me, and you said that she used a white rod?   Well, I do know from experience that once you put some layers in the hair it will "spring" up some,  but probably not to what you want.  How does the hair feel?  Is it really dryed out?  I would maybe soak it in some olive oil for at least a day, then wash really well, condition and then maybe think about perming it again yourself.   

What do the experts think?????  I'm not a pro, but if it were my hair that is what I would do.

Actually, I was just going to say that Chinese hair has a reputation for being extremely hard to curl.  I would imagine that is where everything went wrong, but I don't know for sure.  I now know how you got the hair bone straight, I originally thought it was Indian hair.

Wasting money sure is a pain in the ass, if you cant use it you might as well try perming it again.....or selling it.  I swear I've wasted more money on this "hobby" than all my others combined.  Thank goodness we have a board like this or I'd be wasting waaaay more!!!!

I can see how your curl would be hard to match, which makes sense why you want to perm it.  I'm thinking about ordering from indainhairs.com which is also raw hair, maybe you would have good luck with that?  I'm sure other members would be more qualified to tell you if Indian hair perms well.  I totally agree with the DIY thing, I feel better if I screw it up than paying someone else to screw it up lol.  There are a few great pros out there, but sometimes it is hard to weed through the wackos.
