Darken highlighted hair

I had blonde highlights.I just put Golden Brown Natural Instincts in mine to turn it a pretty reddish color.I knew if I got a red color it would have turnd pink.Only cuz the blonde I had was very bright.I now use a wash out color for now. I knew this golden color would turn the actually reddish blonde I wanted.I get tired of the same color.I always change it.Plus,what's good about this is if I wanna go back blonde I can.By washing it alot & letting the blonde come back.I'm glad I didn't get a peramament color.

lol indeed.  I just want to thank you again for your advice about the need to add red to cover the highlights before going brown.  I'm suprised you went with highlights being that you know they are hard to get rid of .  How does it look now?

Since my color faded and the highlights came back I had to do the two-step process again to re-darken it and cover my highlights again.  It worked better this time because I did not leave out the first crucial step.  (The first time I used the #108 Redish Blond color without developer we had applied it to dry hair so my dry hair absorbed the color.)  This time I wet my hair in the sink and towel dryed it before we applied the color and let it soak for 25 minutes.  Then we blotted it with paper towels (the first time it was not wet enough to blot) and applied the #117 medium golden brown on top (1 oz color, 1 oz developer, & 1 oz shampoo) for 50 minutes and the color came out darker this time.  It is a georgous dark warm brown.  Any red highlights are faint.  I agree wholeheartidly that Clairol consultants will not stear you wrong.

it faded and now the blond highlights are showing up again.  I'm going to do the same formula as before.  Clairol said to mix 1 oz shampoo, 1 oz 117 golden brown and 1 oz developer.  they said the shampoo is used so it doesn't get too dark, but as i posted before it turned too light.  what do you think will happen if i leave out the 1 oz shampoo?

I called Clairol like you suggested and they said to go with #108 Redish Blond and use the color without devloper, just like you said  :-) and then #117 medium golden brown on top, again like you said :-).  So julesyjul88 knows what she's talking about!  Thank you, I'm gonna have a friend do all this for me and I can't wait.

 You have to do red first. I tried one that's light reddish brown,and it didnt have quite enough red in it to work properly.

So then I did it again...used a light auburn,just the color/toner and not the color developer for 20 minutes,then a light brown over top for another 20 minutes (with the color developer)

As you can see in my avatar it worked (except my hair has alot more red in it then it does in my avatar because I had just colored it and it has lightened up a little now~but to me actually looks better)

NOoo,it wont turn pink as long as you dont pick a drastic intense red.something like a light red or light auburn.Maybe a reddish blonde even.Then color light brown on top.

I love red too and red highlights but alot of people on this site dont want ANY in their hair at all.
