I've heard a lot of people say that they put glycerine into their conditioners, but I don't know what that is.  Is it something that you buy separately?  I'm a little confused.

yes, its purchased seperately. Some conditioners do have it but i dont think its a significant amount. You can get glycerine at walmart and drugstores

its a humectant(attracts moisture from the air)  and used as a hair and skin softener.

my mother use this a lot in her skin moisturizer but ive neve tried mixing it w/ a conditioner. i know a few members use jamican black castor oil as an emolient or humectant as well.
 
Renee can glycerine and castor oil be used to lock in moisture?

Castor oil can lock in moisture but not glycerin. HTH
