QuoteReplyTopic: Disappointing Install Posted: May 30 2007 at 1:31pm
Ladies... I am so disappointed and feel like a fool. I decided to have a professional do my first install and I hate it. I went with So. Cap. and paid over a thousand dollars. The stylist was very nice and I dont know if she was just having a bad day or what, but....
1) She ordered the wrong color and then didn't blend the colors how I wanted.
2) She had to dye my own hair three times, the last two times with the extensions in.
3) The blending is, in my opinion, not good. I look like I have a mullet, not to mention that she cut some of my own hair off in the back and I am trying to grow it out.
4) She installed MANY of the bonds on only five or so hairs. These bonds are pulling my hair out. In the first week, I have lost about 25 bonds and I am being very gentle with them.
I will try to attach a picture. I know I should give her a chance to rectify it, but, I am afraid to let her touch my hair again. What can I do? Should I order some more hair and add to it myself? Should I try to take out the bonds that are only attached to a few hairs?
I just don't understand it. I had PLENTY of hair to attach to. My hair is very thick. I could just cry right now.
Okay...the image posting didnt work. I am not sure what I did wrong. Trust me on this, I have a mullet. It looks horrible, far worse than any of the DIY installs I have seen on this site. At this point, I would be happy to even have "mushroom" head. I look straight out of the eighties.

Well, you're in LUCK the 80's look is back! (just kidding)
I would call her and tell her exactly what you told us here. See what she says. It doesn't make sense that she would do such a crappy install. Has she just started doing this??
No, that is what is really funny, Malibu. She has been doing hair for many years. I looked at photos of her work and they were really good (unless of course, it wasn't really her work). At this rate, the bonds are going to have all fallen out within a month and they are taking my own hair with them.

That's horrible. Did you pay with a credit card? I don't know how much you paid but I know it wasn't cheap so I would call her, ask her to remove them because it's going to be damaging on your hair and dispute the charges on you credit card. This install sounds pitiful. Perhaps you can talk to the salon owner and she what she/he says? I would act on this now, don't wait because she's going to argue that it couldn't be too bad if you waited.
I'm sorry this happened to you! Can I suggest sew ins? I LOVE my sew in!!
Thank you.... I am going to think really hard about what I want to say and do. I am a student too. I did charge this on a credit card. It was literally what I make in two month's pay. I feel so stupid for not at least trying to have gone the DIY route.
I'd suggest you stand your ground, march back in and request some fix for your hair. Take it as far as the salon owner if need be. You shouldn't settle for less than you paid for. If you really don't want her touching your hair again maybe reqest a different stylist do it for you?

Talk to her. She may fix it willingly because of the excessive loss. DO NOT REMOVE THEM. You've paid to much money, it will be cheaper to have her fix it. Do you still have the ones that came out? Show them to her but don't let her keep them unless she corrects her work.
How many strands did she put in? You may have to buy more hair. I don't think people should pay per strand anyway. You should only pay for full head, half head etc.
Does she own the shop? Have someone else there fix it if you don't trust her. Make them reinstall the ones that are pulling at your hair and add more hair or refund your money. You should only have to pay for the extra hair not the repair.
I would talk to the salon owner. See if you can get another stylist to fix it. A bond on five hairs is very scary to me. That just says hair loss. I wouldn't want her touching my hair again either. I color match my ext to my own hair myself and I'm a DIY. No reason to put your hair through harsh processes you didn't want in the first place. She's a prof and should be able to color match the exts to your hair properly if that's what you want, or at the very least be willing to reorder the right hair and apologize for the delay instead of coloring your hair three times and then goofing the exts. If you don't say anything soon you can kiss your hard earned money goodbye.
oh and I second the "don't try to remove it yourself". You'll lose hair and you'll also lose your leverage/proof by doing so before showing the salon owner what happened.

How long ago did you get them done? If it's less than 2 weeks I'd go back and ask for a full refund and explain what's happening. Then I would look around on the board, there are MANY tutorials and links so you (and a friend maybe) could do your hair...it should only cost $100.00-$400.00 depending on the hair you use,..
Thank you, Ladies, for all the support. I just had the extensions done a week ago today and I have saved the ones that have come out. I saved them in case I want to reattach them with microlinks or something.
As far as going to the salon owner, she is a private one-person operation, so, that is not really an option. Honestly, the thought of letting her have another go at it brings tears to my eyes. She has already cost me over a grand, dyed my hair three times, cut off some of my real hair, gave me a horrible install, etc... I have very little faith in going back to her. I am almost having an anxiety attack even thinking about going back to her.

I wouldn't want her touching my hair anymore either. Call her and ask for them to be removed and for your money back. This person sounds fishy. I can't imagine she's been doing this very long if your install is so poorly done. I would also call SoCap and let them know about her.

you paid over $1000's for SOCap? I paid $700 tip included for a full head of SOcap- she ripped you off. I would demand she do it right- w/the right color or take them out- . That is not right and sounds like she was not having a good day at all. I would call, you should not have to pay for lack of professionalism at putting in the extentions.
Call your CC company, have them reverse the charges. Call the stylist and let her know that you are not happy with the install and you do not feel comfortable going back for further maintenence with her. Have them removed by another Socap professional and DIY your next install with the salvaged hair plus whatever amount more you need to fill in that mullet.
oh years ago i would have felt just like you...too nervous and anxious to go back to her.......but first off it is YOUR thousand dollars! second off she SHOULD be concerned about her reputation and WANT to make things right for you (for no extra charge too!) sitting at home feeling miserable as you watch your hair AND the extension hair come out isnt going to help at all.....i INSIST that you go back to her and show her and tell her how horrible you feel with her end result good luck, please go back to her...if she ends up being an ass find her boss and even lay on the floor and have a tantrum until its fixed or you money is given back to you

Thanks again, Ladies...your posts have definitely cheered me up. I will contact her at let her know how I am feeling. I just have a feeling it is not going to go well.
When she re-dyed my hair, she said to me, "I hope you know no other stylist would be doing this for you." She actually told me that about five times. The funny thing is I didn't even ask her to redye my hair. She did it on her own accord because it looked so bad and then tried to act like she was doing me a favor or something.
I am afraid if I don't have this install removed, I am going to be half bald in a month.
