never trimming again - help from Uzma?

I've been reading about everybody's experiences with growing their hair out ...

I read that Uzma plans never to trim or cut her hair again ... well I must admit that that is something I'm beginning to consider as well

on the other end I'm very insecure about how it will look after a few years, how my hairdresser will react (I'll still have to visit het to let her put in my highlights ...

what do you all think?

It really depends on what you want for and from your hair.

Do you want a style that requires the ends/edges of the hair to be shaped?
Are you prepared to support a small/medium/large “community” of split-ends?
How much care are you able/willing to take to prevent splits forming?
Will you be slammed or criticised for the scissor-free approach, and how will you deal with it?
(Your hair-dresser is a paid employee and should respect the wishes of his/her customer).

Can you visualise your hair 3, 5, 10 years down the line and KNOW that you will enjoy the uniqueness of multiple lengths of hair, some not in the best of condition, but all retaining their natural closed cuticle and tapered end?

I have very specific reasons for choosing un-cut hair and these reasons are sufficiently compelling to maintain my commitment.
No one – not a single person in my life (and only one person on the web) is supportive of this or advocates the approach I am taking.
Are you able to deal with a similar response?
Total, continuous discouragement from all quarters!!

Of course, I’m totally over-the-top-heavy about this subject so please don’t expect any balanced statements from me.

You may just wish to try out the no-trim approach for a while and see how it goes.

Caro, I'm with you. I haven't had trims in several years, my hair is the longest it has ever been and I think I can seriously say it is in the best condition it has ever been.
Yes my ends are uneven, but I have never been one of those who were into the "shaped" ends look. I think my hair looks natural and I like it this way.
You go girl! Grow that hair and if you dont' want to trim it, I'm with you!

Don't know if I'm magnificent but I support you three in your no-trim endeavor. (Uzma, I don't know who was your sole supporter but I didn't believe that there could possibly be only one).

While going without trims is not something that I choose for myself, I fully respect the right of others to choose as they wish with their hair. The only hair thing that bothers me is when people are duped and cajoled (by those who employ various means of deception) into doing that which they would ordinarily not do. Typically, this manifests itself as some form of... you guessed it, a haircut (haircuts for lox of "love", haircuts "because you're too old/short/thin/grey/etc for long hair"... and so on and so on).

Never trimming hair is definitely not for everyone. We've all seen people with long hair that is so frizzy and damaged it really isn't attractive at all.

Now, MAYBE if these people treated their hair more delicately, it wouldn't be that way... but still... Gross!

I'm considering the route of no trimming too. I'm growing out my slightly layered hair, and everytime I think I should get a trim to even out the layers, I also think that I don't want to lose the length I already have. So I might as well just let it grow and grow and let nature and biology take care of the layers.

i have dyed my hair four colors in the last. two years and trimmed it once. but that was just because i was getting sick of it being long. but its grown back and i dont want to cut it anymore. i have split ends. but they are not dry. even though i dye it every month. i think its th ARTec.

I mean people always say you cant revers damage on your hair, only mask it. well, if thats the case, ARTec does a DAMN good job as masking it. all of my friends who dont dye their hair or anything all think my hair is "perfect" so. i must be doing SOMETHING right.
