Hi all. I hope I don't annoy anyone with this question. You all seem to know your stuff when it comes to extensions though... I have been reading through the forums a little bit. I am so overwhelmed at the number of options for extensions! It doesn't make it easy to know what to do.
I'm getting married in August. I would like to have extensions put in before then, to be able to have the length for an awesome 'do. I have found a salon near me who does Visions hair extensions.
Has anyone had any experience with them? Or anyone have any suggestions for me otherwise?
I have fine, blonde hair. It's just touching the tops of my shoulders. It's colored, so it's not in the best condition but it doesn't seem to break TOO easily. I have included a pic. LOL! Excuse the crazy make-up. I was fooling around online and now I can't find the original pic. My hair is a little longer than this now.

Hey 8.08Bride --- Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!
I understand you being overwhelmed. There's a lot of info and options when it comes to hair extensions! They key is to narrow it down to your ultimate goal of having fake hair. For you it's turning it into an updo. To do that flawlessly, I think you have several options. You could use clip-ins, which would give you the temporary hair and can be manipulated into an updo depending on how you install them. You could do a partial sew-in or tape/glue extensions, where just half your head has extensions, so the length could go in the updo. Your perimeter would stay out to hide the fake hair. If you want to have the extensions for quite a while, fusion or something similar might be your best bet --- you can do anything with it (so I hear) and it lasts for more than two months. I would say your colour is #16 blonde (Bohyme), but I'm no expert.
Think about the length of time you want them in -- this will narrow options for you. I wish you good luck!
You don't need to get attachments for an updo. Most beauty supplies have all kinds of curls that are on one piece, you put your own hair in a ponytail and clip on the hair piece. The actual name of this type of piece is postiche. They also come in long ponytails, called a switch for a smooth updo.
If you're thinking of something more permanent do it at least a few weeks before the wedding. You don't want to get stuck with something you hate for your honeymoon. The hair not the husband.
I personally would not recommend fusion. My hair is about your color and length (and its fine too) and when I wore my hair up with fusion you could see the bonds. I would suggest clip ins, sew in weft or skin wet

I considered using clip-ins but am really hoping for something more permanent. I was really headed towards fusion but now the more I read the more scared I am. I think I may be leaning more towards sew-ins. Anything I should be wary of with them? I have now read that the skin under the wefts can become irritated? Yikes. lol...
How long will the sew-in wefts usually last?
And any suggestions of how to find someone good in my area to do them?
I definitely plan to give myself some time to get used to them before the wedding.

A sew-in is a good idea. Just make sure they do not braid your hair too tight unless they are using some other method to make tracks. It shouldn't hurt TOO much, but you will feel some discomfort. Also, if they add synthetic hair to yours to make a braid, watch for any allergic reaction. Some people start itching and never stop! Also, make sure they don't braid too close to your perimeter/hairline -- don't want the braids to show! Hopefully, someone can give you advice on who to go to. Most likely you will need to go to an ethnic hair salon or a Dominican salon to get your braiding done.

Good point! Scary that she would make those assumptions and great that you caught on to that. Not sure why more 'caucasian' salons don't do sew-ins; it's not like fusion and micro links are much better for hair! Can't wait to hear how your consult goes; good luck.

[off topic]This reminds me of a work incident I experienced many years ago.. I once had a co-worker (who worked in a remote office) cop a 'tude with one of my other co-workers and me over a similar incident because we never "told him" that I was black.. He "found out" when he came to our office for a meeting.. He was ANGRY that we never told him even after he had "made it clear" that he thought I was white.. (he often stated to both of us how he couldn't tell us apart on the phone -- Kathy was white) If I wasn't so insulted I would have laughed at how STUPID he sounded.. I do laugh now at how stupid his reaction to the "news" was..[/off topic]

Oh my goodness Divavocals. That's so absurd! I would have been very insulted as well.
My consulation went great! The (white *gasp*) hair stylist was very nice and informative. She had fusion in her own hair and let me feel them. She put one in my hair too so I can get a better idea in case I want her to do them in the future. I am happy with my decision to do sew-ins for now. I don't like how the fusion feels in my hair... although I may find it better than sew-in, we'll see.
So, she color-matched my hair. And is ordering me some 22" straight strawberry blonde. It was $250 for the hair. I *think* she said the hair is "Hair Concepts"? I forget the brand but I know she said it was real human hair. And she thinks I will be good with 4-5 rows. She's charging me $50/row. How does that sound??
I am SO excited to get them in. I have to wait until next Thursday. But you better believe I will be posting some pics when it's done.

Girl I laugh about it now.. At the time what I found incredible was how much this man TRULY didn't think he was being insulting.. He kep telling me over and over that I didn't (are you ready for this??) SOUND black!!! He TRULY couldn't understand why I wasn't speaking in non stop ebonics.. He thought I was some sort of abberant person.. So when I asked him if he would prefer if I spoke in Ebonics when dealing with him, he FINALLY got it and shut the hell up..

It sounds good to me.. If you are comfortable with the stylist, I say go for it!!!

Hiya 8.08. I just replied to your private. It helps that I saw your hair from this thread. I gave you a couple ideas on places to go. I have been to both. It appears that our hair types are similar yet I probably have just a wee bit more and a little more length now since Ive been wearing a sew in for a year in July.

Its good that she let you feel the fusion bond. The problem I had is that my hair was between my chin and shoulder, so to get length and volume (without a mullett look) I used 250+ strands. I swear almost every hair on my head had a bond in it - there were just so many - but it was the only way to make the mullett look go away

Oh Diva, I can't believe that ridiculous man! Honestly, that is scary and I think what's scarier, is that you know there are plenty more out there like him! Ugggh.
8.08: I am so glad you found someone you trust and are going to try sew-ins! You may want to take an Ibuprofen before and after you get it OR just one after. If you expect SOME discomfort, I think you'll be OK. I bet it will look great and the hair sounds awesome. Good luck!

Yea, skybrie, My hair is a little longer now than in the pic... so I have the same issue. Hopefully with a little layering it will all blend nicely though.

To be exact, the terminology I used was weave. She rolled her eyes at me and said, "You dont want that. It wont work on a white person's hair and its totally ghetto."

With the
right stylist, you'll be fine.. I would have a LONG discussion with her
on what you can expect, how she braids, etc.. A good stylist
understands that she should not have to tug and pull on your hair to
achieve a good result.. Also talk to her about braid reinforcement..
Silky hair textures have a little more slip to 'em and the braids will
need some reinforcement to help counteract the slip.. Good luck girl,
