olive oil

I just got a bottle of olive oil for my hair and I used it as the instructions on the bottle. "put a small amount in hands rub together and apply through hair, style and normal" and after I did that my hair was like it had glue in it, I only used a little. I did this after it was dried. Clearly, I don't think i know how to use oils or maybe taking care of my hair. Any tips as to how to use it?
