Try products with antiseptic, puifying and deep cleansing properties(not nessecarily advertised as a deep cleansing shampoo). These feautures do wonders for my hair.I'm currently using Aveda's line with the shampure shampoo and the colour prescription conditioner daily for my oily coarse hair.Switching to Pure fume soon since I use styling products everyday.Your hair is fine so I guess you need body building shampoo and a very light conditioner.Always end with a cold rinse.Hope that hels.

Hi Liane :)Good morning! Glad I was able to help you.Yes, I guess based on my own experience with my hair someone can have an oily scalp but dry hair. Kind of a double whammy of sorts. I mean, you want to take care of your hair by treating the oily scalp with a good but gentle shampoo BUT you also don't want to dry your hair out too much either. One good way I've learned to do this, is when shampooing just concentrate the shampoo mainly on the scalp and use at least a couple times a week a nice deep conditioner or hot oil treatment. This is the method that seems to work for me best so far.Liane, this is just my opinion but you wrote and I quote "if I skip a day my hair gets that wet look on top". If you find this is your experience, then maybe your scalp needs that daily shampoo. If you find this has been your experience, then I would continue with the daily shampoo. You have to do whatever works for you!Hope I helped. If you have anymore questions, please let me know and I will be more than happy to answer them later on this evening. Okay?Have a great day and take care!!Maria :)Related Link:Maria In Mass

Hi Maria,Thank you for your response... it helped very much. I just have a question or two.> Like you, my scalp is also oily but my hair is very> thick, several inches below my shoulders, and normal> to slightly dry.So a person can have an oily scalp but dry hair? I have no idea if my scalp is oily... all I know is if I skip a day my hair gets that wet look on top! LOL> I've noticed that if I do not shampoo my hair> everyday, my scalp becomes even more oily which> irritates my scalp even more, more flakes appear, and> more little red sores develop.Could the daily shampooing which helps your scalp be drying your hair? If so they should make something that helps your scalp... keeping it separate from things that help your hair. Or maybe one thing that could help both. Well.. we can always dream!> PS. I never heard of Pears Daily Shampoo. Is this> available here in the US too?I assumed it did. We live near the U.S. / Canadian border and get a lot of U.S. programming so it's likely to be available in the U.S. but maybe not every state. I think it's similar to the Pert shampoo. But Pears doesn't have an ingredients listing on the label. I assume it's gentle since it's for daily washings.

Maria,Since I'm growing my hair, I'm trying to be extremely gentle with it, but you reminded me of one way that I'm a little lax -- rinsing my hair with extremely warm water! In the winter, it just feel sooooo good to have warm water falling on my head and body! But it also obviously isn't good for either.Which is curious, though....in salons, almost without exception, my hair has been washed and rinsed in VERY hot water. In fact, sometimes I almost jump a bit in reaction to the water, which nearly burns me.To any stylists -- why do some stylists use such very warm water? You would think they would know it wouldn't be good for the hair!> Hi Liane :)> Like you, my scalp is also oily but my hair is very> thick, several inches below my shoulders, and normal> to slightly dry. Hi Liane :)Like you, my scalp is also oily but my hair is very thick, several inches below my shoulders, and normal to slightly dry. My main concern with my scalp is that I have a condition called sebborheic dermatitis which often develops into something called folliculitis. I've noticed that if I do not shampoo my hair everyday, my scalp becomes even more oily which irritates my scalp even more, more flakes appear, and more little red sores develop. Now if your scalp is just oily with no scalp problems and if you've found shampooing everyday works best for you, than I'd continue your regimen of shampooing everyday. In a shampoo, forget about looking for one created for those with oily hair as often the detergents in oily hair shampoos are quite harsh. Instead, look for one that is made for normal hair with gentle ingrediants which contain no conditioners or ingrediants that can build up in the hair. Always rinse well, use the coolest water you can stand (won't stimulate your scalp), and rinse rinse rinse. When you use your weekly conditioner, just apply it to the hair from the ears down and again rinse rinse rinse. You can also make your own rinses if you like which really help with oily scalps. One can be made with the juice from a lemon mixed in a cup of water and another with a cup of apple cider vinegar mixed in a cup of water. Years ago, this is what I used on my scalp and it really helped along with shampooing everyday with a good gentle shampoo.Hope I helped. Hi,I have fine hair (but lots of it) which is normally oily. (if I skip a day of washing, it's grease city) Right now I still have an old perm (since spring '99)... My newest hair since the perm is down to the top of my ears and the perm has loosened quite a bit.. to just being a bit wavy... although when I brush it, it gets frizzy (just static I think).I am currently using Pears daily care shampoo every day and Pears daily care conditioner once a week. Once a month I use Tea Tree Shampoo to remove buildup. (just started this regimen). Before that I was using Pantene 2 in 1 for Normal hair.I was wondering what your various opinions would be on whether I should keep doing what I have just started... or change to something else? And if I should change... then what should I try?I noticed last time I bought shampoo that most of the shampoos available were 2 in 1's... didn't really want to get Pears but everything else was 2 in 1. (didn't notice before since I always bought 2 in 1 anyway)I was looking initially for shampoo for Oily hair... but all I found was shampoo for normal, dry/damaged, and colour treated hair. One was even for Normal to Dry hair. What should I look for then? Shampoo for Oily hair? Or shampoo for permed hair? Just a gentle daily care shampoo?Or a shampoo for fine hair? How often should I be shampooing? How often should I be using conditioner? How often should I use the clarifying shampoo? (Tea Tree)I'd also like to mention that in the past it has been very hard for a perm to take.... the alarm would go off several times for the stylist to check my hair, and each time the stylist would say "oh... it's STILL not ready!!... and she'd have to set the alarm again".Except the last time... my hair seemed to be done much quicker this time. And this is the best perm I had ever gotten if I go by the amount of tangles and dryness. Although that could be because I didn't use a blow dryer this time and I waited until my hair was dry before picking it and I never combed or brushed it. I do comb and brush it now though since my hair is almost straight again now anyway.
