Nicole Kidman - Pixie

Has to be a wig.

It is a wig. About a year ago, "Birth" was in production and Ms. Kidman showed up on set one day with that wig. It created a stir in the press, and on this board, because it doesn't look like a wig and people wondered how Kidman would fit all her hair under it.

On "Extra," they revealed it be a wig. And Kidman did in fact have long hair at Cannes a few months later. I can only assume the wig is there to show a passage of time. I think she is 10 years older later in the film than she is at the beginning. And most women change their hair in 10 years.

They've gone back for reshoots. As far as I know, Kidman only filmed "Stepford Wives" after "Birth," so there was time earlier. They may want to shoot in winter, as that's when they shot last year.

Since it was a wig a year ago, it certainly is now. Hairdressers wouldn't want to chance replicating a wig with a real haircut. Better to play it safe.

Apparently, everyone in the media isn't aware of it.

I think Nicole Kidman has such great features that she'd look great in any haircut. Many women can't pull off a pixie, and I'm not sure that Natalie Portman can based on those "Closer" pictures. On Nicole Kidman, it looks incredible. I'll go out on a limb and say that anyone who doesn't think she looks great in short hair just doesn't like short hair on any woman. I'm not saying that you have to like the short hair over her long hair only that she has to be one of the best looking women with short hair.

That said, long hair or short, she looks great either way.

I love that wig, but I think her face has become too harsh for it. She's gotten to the point she looks like a transvestite even with her own long hair, so that wig is likely to only intensify that effect, unfortunately. Even in the tiny thumbnails there she looks too harsh for the style-- it makes her look kinda like a Vulcan :-P . Maybe if she'd worn it five or ten years ago when she didn't look quite as bad, it would've been nicer.
