QuoteReplyTopic: Sew In that Stays Put Posted: September 12 2007 at 6:36pm
Hi all. I have been wearing a sew in now for over 2 months and its still snug with no slipping! I also have fine, caucasian hair. I know some people have tried sew ins and had problems with them not staying in and becoming loose too soon.
I am going in on September 22nd to get a full take down and re-sew. It feels like it could go longer but I think after about 10 weeks I should have the dead hair removed and wash my natural hair and scalp really well.
I have been wearing 3 single wefts of Russian. The hair is still soft and tangle free as when it was first installed back on July 7th.
When Im back, I will post exactly the method she is using on me that is working so well for others that have fine hair. I failed to find out on the initial install. All I know was it involved string and rubber bands.

High ponytails can be worn if the wefts aren't too thick, and enough hair is left out on the hairline in back. That is the most important, enough hair left out to cover the tracks.
Krimsa, that is snug! I wonder if it's the same technique as what Mokipono did on her youtube video?
How much do you pay per track?
Hi Malibu,
Do you have a link to Mokipono's video? I would love to see it. We should have Carrie add it if she didn't already.
Hi Krimsa,
Was your hair braided first or did you have the type that they call Malaysian where the wefts are sewn directly into the hair? I would be curious to know. Also, did you get any type of headaches either during the intial install or afterwards? Finally, how long did the install take?
Thanks in advance.

I think Mokipono took the video down. I am not sure why, at one point I know she was getting alot of negative comments. Why do people have to be so mean?
It was an excellent demo. And to my knowledge she is revising and reformating her demo into a dvd/kit and will be offering it for sale when she is ready!

I dont think I ever saw that video. Yeah Malibu, it’s really holding up well. I don’t know though if my natural hair is quite as thin as the ladies that have had complaints about sew ins though. It’s a fine texture but I have a fair amount of hair if that makes sense. It’s just ratty and looks like hell lol.
I did get one tightening (not a complete take down) in early August. I just got that done because I was in an area of town with a lot of salons that worked with weaves. I was in paradise and knew that wasn’t going to happen again soon in New England so I got it tightened lol.
But that’s still dam good to go this long. It feels tight. The initial install was $100 for 3 tracks. I’m going back to her now and she’s only charging $25 for the re-do. She’s fast as lightning, yet makes the sew in feel really secure. I had a little pain but it goes away.
I have been able to wear high ponytails as well as up dos. My only limitation is myself as I can’t style very well lol. But as far as concealment of wefts, no problem. To me, it’s easier than the bonds because those snag in the ponytail. They also will start slipping if you put too much tension on them. At least that’s been my experience with bonds.
I have no way of getting behind myself to try to take one. I can show you a similar photo of how they look now if you want that. The lady in this photo has the exact same type of hair and weft I am wearing now. Basically all it looks/feels like is a grown out ridge.

Krimsa, That's a good price. I don't understand how they tighten the tracks? I haven't had a braider tell me to come back for them to be tightened. I'm intrigued.
Karen, here is one of Mokipono's videos. I haven't seen this for a while but that hair looks mmmmmmm yummmm!! I love how much hair is on those wefts! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_sRbj55cwQ
Sherrie, I didn't realize the video was taken off youtube. Apparently in between brainless collage projects, shameless people need to say something to make themselves feel relevant.
I got the tightening done in Florida by a place called "Paradise Braids". She didnt take anything down but seemed just to tighten using new rubber bands and thread again. She did not sew the wefts together but just tightened each one seperately. She said I could go another month but then would need a complete take down.

Hi Malibu. Thank you so much.
WOW. I loved that video. Mokipono did a great job. I watched it a couple of times.
Mokipono - Can we add your video links to Carrie's posts? Not sure if you want us to but if it is OK, that would be great. Please let me know.

I've had mine tightened twice already so next time around it'll be a full take down and re-install.
I am now trying to "elect" my daughter to learn how to do the weave. She does braid very well so it's the weave part she's trying to get.
Krimsa, that is great that you can go for that long and still have the weave so snug and tight. I love having the weave and it's such a welcome change after having the GL bonds for so long! My hair no longer shreds out and I don't have to worry now about "slipping" bonds all the time.
I cant really take photos because, well quite frankly i have no one here that can take them for me. Its so sad. lol. i guess i could try holding the cam and sort of lifting up the hair but its all black and dark and it will reflect off and you wont be able to see anything i bet. It would be different with blonde but even then, weaves blend so well. Imagine trying to take a photo of a black, slim, band against dark hair!
I disliked GL and those bonds. They felt like rice in my hair. Weaves are just softer and less noticeable in my opinion. I feel more connected to it.

You too Carol!? I have to ask next time. I would be nice to extend my installs. Right now I get six weeks out of it. Although...it's nice to change the hair and do different things all the time. I get bored quickly

Ooo I'd really like seeing this one. The first install I ever got was sew ins and it took them a week until it started hurting and knotting. How often did you wash your hair? I'm really curious about this one.
A week is way too soon for knotting. Something was not right there. I do a full shampoo once a week and usually about mid week, just a top hair one if it gets oily. The extension hair never seems to feel oily or dirty but of course my exposed hair at scalp will get a little greasy. It all blends perfectly. I also ONLY ever used conditioner on the ends of the extension hair, never any higher. This will keep your weave nice longer I bet.

Angie, your sew ins were hurting and knotting after a week? I don't understand why they would knot up. Do you mean the hair was poor quality? I wash my hair twice a week with poo and conditioner. Krimsa, you're right it's good to keep the conditioner away from the braid. I never think about it, lots of conditioner goes there
I guess you could condition up there if you want but i dont see the need. it seems like a lot of residue might end up getting trapped in the braid if you condition every single time but if it works for you, its probably fine.
