I did not experience any negative side effects because I did not take MSM and will not do so for the reasons stated previously.Less than 20% is high for side effects. Ley is a scientific writer with all the relevant degrees and writes in clear, concise language.The only drawback that I could see from all my reading was information which I received from a distributor of the product. He was exceptionally honest with me and told me he was a distributor of the product. I could look in my e-mail and pull up his site or you might contact him yourself. He indicated to me that because MSM is basically a detoxifier of your system, you can get a severe rash from as little as 1,000mg per day. Dosage is usually 500mg for every 50pounds of body weight. Two men had written to this distributor indicating that they had developed a rash with the 1gram daily dose and what they should do. The distributor indicated it is typical. He indicated to me that he himself had a rash for 9 months all over his chest, back and stomach. When I asked him about the value of using MSM to enhance hair, skin and nails, he indicated to me that the sulfur-containing amino acid L-Cysteine was a much better choice. If you are familiar with many hair supplement formulas, L-Cysteine is a common ingredient (see for example, Twinlab Hair Factors). L-cysteine is also found in egg yolks, onions, garlic and other foods. The distributor also told me that you have to take a fair amount, 1,000mg is small relatively speaking, to get MSM's full benefit. Jacob himself takes 12grams (12,000mgs)per day. Moreover, you have to make sure that you are really getting MSM. Lots of distributors are selling mostly fillers. The distributor indicated to me that you can tell the real thing by breaking open the capsule or dropping the powder in a glass of water. If the material has not dropped to the bottom of the glass within 15-30minutes, you've gotten mostly fillers.For me, the severe rash was not worth it. For my pollen sensitivity, I use Vitamin C with Quercitin which is excellent.
