Another good idea might be to try a color depositing shampoo and conditioner in ash blonde. ARTec, Redken, Aura, Clairol (Sally Beauty for those last two) and several other salon lines carry such products. Unfortunately it is hard to find color enhancing lines at the drugstore as they are centered primarily in more expensive brands. However, such products can make a subtle difference in hair, especially lighter shades.
I would suggest using both a shampoo and conditioner for counteracting the brasiness because shampoo alone does not do the best job leaving color on the hair shaft. If you use a conditioner and leave it on for 5-10 minutes (the longer the better and with a heating cap is even greater) you might really have some luck!

I haven't used the "white minx" product that you mention. But my sister had good results with something called Wella Color Charm. She needed something to tone down brassiness and this worked well for her. She bought it at Rite Aid so it should be available at most drugstores. She said you shampoo and then apply Wella Color Charm to wet hair. It's a leave-in product. Since it's temporary, you obviously have to reapply it after every shampoo. She says it comes in different colors. My sister did not have any problems with the Wella like you did with the "white minx" leaving your hair feeling unmanageable.
I hope this helps. Caramia

Isn't that the truth! I haven't given up quite yet, still have a few questions to be answered then I may try again, I just don't know! At least we all suffer together.

Oh ladies, ladies, I feel your pain.... I'm still red/brassy (see "botched" posts). I don't have any advice for you, but just wanted you to know that you don't suffer alone. We should have a party for all of us who are afraid to leave our homes because of our hair. Bet there'd be a lot of red heads/brass bells standing around the punch bowl!

I have just gone through something similar. I went from highlights to all over color. Instead of nice blond that would be easier and cheaper to keep up, I got reddish tone on the top. I went back and they tried something lighter. Still brassy so back I go again and they put a toner on it but then it was too dark so next they try chunky highlights. Better but STILL brassy. So I just went back today and she bleached the top and I think finally it is what I wanted. Now as to upkeep, I am not even sure.

I believe what I need is advice on a shampoo or rinse that removes or at least tones down brassiness. Here is my story.
I began with dirty blonde hair and went to a stylist to have my hair colored all over for the first time. I wanted a platinum blonde look, instead I left with major strawberry blonde, way too much red and brassy tones. So I went back and she tried to fix it with another color, then a toner, still left with this brassy head of hair. She said I could go back dark or she could try an ash color, which could leave me with green tones, what??? So today I tried this "white minx" hair rinse that you leave in. It does seem to have toned down the brassiness but it leaves my hair feeling very nasty, not soft or manageable at all so I don't want to use it again. Is there anything I can use, like some sort of shampoo that removes brassiness?? (and doesn't cost an arm and a leg to boot, is this asking too much?)
