Unfortunately, women weren't encouraged towards short hair in those days, so historical sites won't help much ^_^; but I think something simple and pretty like a flower garden or ribbon-hairband might work out well in a pinch.
More awesome than a manatee!

Buy a braid the color of your hair, wrap it around your head like a crown braid, and put ribbons or flowers in it. Pin it securely, overlapping to hide the ends.
Just looking for a few good hair slaves - is that too much to ask?

In all fairness neither were men, most men had longer than today's normal locks. People with buzzcuts would look pretty out of place. Probally due to the fact that people who were not rich, could not afford barbers. Some men were mandated by royalty to never cut their hair. In midevil times it was preached to the women by the catholic church, to never cut your hair. For it is a mortal sin.
