I promise to go looking in a more appropriate location next. But hey I trust you guys!
I invested in some facial rejuvenation this morning. And since I
would like to maximise my investment I'm thinking of changing skin care
products.
I'd really like to find a high SPF non greasy moisturizer. I've
tried a couple drug store ones but I'm not impressed. I have SPF
15 eye cream from estee lauder that I like but if I could find higher
that wasn't slimy that would rock. The oil of olay spf 30 all
over facial one is the best drug store brand I have found and it's
still too greasy for summer time. I haven't tried any dept store
counter or better all over sunscreen/moisturisers.
Also I was asking at the gym tonight and got several reccomendations for Proactive. Anyone tried it?
I figure if I'm gonna spend the bucks at the doctors office I might as well spend them on good products to really look fabulous.
I"m taking any and all reccomendations.

murad makes a nice moisturizer with vitamin C that's nongreasy, but it's only spf 15.
i had the same problem - i have oily skin and melasma on top of it, so i was perpetually breaking out. my alternate rec. for you would be to use a nice, nongreasy moisturizer with or without sunscreen (i like murad's for oily skin - no spf), and recently my dermatologist recommended something called "total block" by fallene. i get the tinted version at spf 60! the nontinted goes up to 65. i wear it instead of foundation over moisturizer and love it. it has antioxidants and it's full spectrum. i've not gotten a single blotch since using it. what i realized is that i was still getting tons of exposure driving in my car, walking back and forth outside from my office to another building, etc. i've decided i can fake any tan i want and being super sunsmart now will save me troubles in the future.
Let me tell you something about the whole spf thing!
when looking for a good spf you really need to look at the active ingredient (zinc oxide is the best) The FDA only regulates spf factor for UVB rays (burning rays) b/c it wasn't until recently that the UVA rays were found to be damaging. UVA rays cover 320nm to 400nm (these are aging rays)
For example an spf of 30 covers 97% of UVB rays
and an spf of 45 covers 98% of UVB rays
- thats right not a big difference and this goes for ALL spf product (FDA regulations)
So, if you are looking for an spf moisturizer that is for anti-aging - don't look at the spf look at the active ingredient - and actually you should be using an spf and a moisturizer seperately
How funny I am just getting ready to go do my training seminar on this in a few hours (I'm in Colorado Springs)- It is damn HOT!
....here's the catch - no spf on ANY product will address the most inportant rays - UVA

Oh yes, they charge for everything, although most people have insurance to cover most or some of the cost.
I remember when I lived inItaly it was all free, but on the otherhand the service here is much better - I remember sitting in the hospital waiting ALL day!
here you can make an appointmet and acctually get seen, but now I complain about a 20 min wait! but it's no 8 hrs

My only real issues are some cycle driven acne and big pores on my nose.
I found that info on UVA vs UVB too. I remember having a sunscreen as a child that also covered UVC...
In the summer I'm a touch oily in the T zone but int he winter It feels like my skin is going to shrivel up a die.
So this is what I'm thinking.
Find a new cleanser.
Then use a AHA/BHA exfoliant (I've been using this as claenser til now)
A benzoyl peroxide product (I need to talkt o Charlene about what she has left of the Proactiv) lotion or toner whatever.
Moisturizer?
And then some of that total block.
At night a retinol product instead of the AHA/BHA step
And oh yeah you pay for everything here.
I actually made out really cheap yesterday with all my injections for only $300.
I'm gonna have to try a bunch of different things.

the total block is full spectrum uva/uvb...you can read more info here: www.totalblock.com, although i bought mine off amazon.com b/c it was cheaper there (?).
if you don't mind me asking..what injections? i'm thinking it's about time i do something a little more formalized for myself, too. botox? not sure, maybe a smidge of filling.
ah - also at the recommendation of my derm i've been using a product called kojilac-C; it's mainly a blend of depigment stuff like kojic acid for my melasma, but it's got glycolic acid and vitamin C. i think my skin texture has really improved.

I got mostly Restylane (a filler) and a tiny tiny bit of Botox.
I lie about my age and now I feel like people won't notice that.
I mean some people were only noticing because it doesn't add up with
what I talk about having happened in my life that there are only that
many years but...
I saw that total block was really cheap on amazon.
I'm not sure someone as pale as I am should go anywhere near depigmentation stuff.

hee hee. i hear you on that one. i'm what one might call fish belly white. i think it would only be beneficial if you had some hyperpigmentation from sun exposure or something. i think actually it keeps pigment from developing - blocks that pathway, with a little fading of what's there. in order to really fade i've only had success with prescription stuff with steroids and retinol.
i realize i'm getting more and more verbose, but i've read really good things about moisturizers with idebenone. really expensive stuff. touted as the new super antioxidant yadda yadda.
i love that you just come out with it and say you lie about your age. haha. awesome.

I'm worried that it won't be too much longer before my entire childhood

Then I'm going to need some serious help. Thoug I've heard
recently that given enough time your skin can repair some sun damage on
its own. hmmm

On further intense studying of skin care and my face (under the
magnifying mirror) I've decided I have a couple small freckle/age spots
developing around my eyes.
Tell me more about kojalic-C and how you apply it...
what i get is kojilac-C from my dermatologist. it's sold online also. basically the form i get is a liquid suspension although i know there is a lotion form also. the basics are that it increases cell turnover (contains lactic acid), has antioxidants (vitamin C and green tea) - both of which help with fine lines and discoloration in terms of treatment and prevention. It also has some bleaching qualities to tone down the pigment already there - the bleach in kojilac is kojic acid b/c my derm recommends for me to stay away from hydroquinone. i think it's because with my problem - melasma - it doesn't always work as well, is more for treatment and i need that plus maintenance, and can take a while to fade. for most people hydroquinone (like in many pigment treatments - including fade creams you can get in the drug store) may work fine. i think the principle is that kojilac can be used daily without irritation.
i use it am and pm under my moisturizer after washing my face.
did you go to a derm for your treatments? prescription derm meds can be super cheap now too if you have insurance that covers. i would say also ask the person who gave you your treatments for a home maintenence ideas?
I went to an opthamologist. elvira reccomended him.
Anyhow, I have to see my GP in three weeks anyhow, and she knows that I
was looking for someone to do the Restylane(her office never called me
back with a refferal but she gets a pass since she's due to give birth
any second now). I was thinking I'd ask her for a Retin A
prescription. But if there is something else that would be cool
too.
I'll have to go back in a couple of months to see Dr. Townsend who did
my shots (you only get ~3 months out of the Botox) so if what I get
from my GP isn't enough I can consult him then.
Do you put the kojilac only on the dark spots or everywhere?
Maybe I should start with an AHA and work my way up. I've been
using a BHA to work on my pores but since I'm on this new kick...

I discovered Restylane fine lines today when I was looking for the
restylane website to sign up for there "rewards" program. Looks
like that stuff can be used for super tiny lines... Definitely
need to talk to the Doc about that at some point.

that sounds incredibly sensible. i think the principles that are recommended now you are already up on - turning over surface cells via retin A or some other fruit, beta, or glycolic peel would also help with minor skin pigmentation. the kojilac i use is for all over; in the past when i've had more pronounced pigmentation i used a strong prescription topical just on those spots.
