Sorry to hear about your problem. I'm a male with male pattern baldness and I've experienced a thinning at the back of the neck like you are talking about. In my case the thinning occurred because I used to wear a headband with the back of it low, were my neck meets the back of my head. I guess the abrasion of the head band caused my hair to thin back there. Once I noticed what was happening I stopped wearing the head band like that. The hair never did come back to it's original thickness. It's not bald but the hair is so thin compared to the surrounding hair that it doesn't look like it used to. In your case it's not male pattern baldness so I'd recommend you see a doctor for your own piece of mind. I think a dermatologist is who you'd want to see for hair loss issues.
