So, I've spent the last couple of months trying out some new hair and such. Here are my experiences. I'll post pictures of my latest install (elite thermo) tonight.

So, I purchased lovely virgin indian hair off of ebay. The seller is "Productcheap" and she only posts a few batches at a time. I bought the 18 inch (8oz) and was very happy when I received it.  A few days before my install, I washed it (it smelled strange) and hung it in my bathroom to dry (much to my husband's chagrin)LOL

So, I contacted the seller and she was nice (offered refund etc) but after a few emails back and forth informs me that she had contacted her supplier and yes, they are nit eggs, and yes, they do occur often and no, I won't get lice (I already knew this because I did some research but I was still completely grossed out). So, I keep the hair, wash it a few more times, pick out all the nits (ewwww!!!) and start doing the tracks with my new best friend SUPERTAPE.

Yay supertape! It is a bit annoying to work with, but it holds for about 4 weeks without getting gummy and I can put conditioner over the bonds with no slippage.  The hair I bought is handtied (I think) but the pieces of hair are so far apart on the track that I had to triple weft every track - annoying beyond belief. However, I wore the hair for almost 4 weeks and it held up beautifully (NOTE: an unusual amount of time for me and human hair). I took it down and washed it, removed the tapes (so annoying to get it all off!) and will reuse it.

I decided after the nit experience (I can't sleep, nits will eat me!) that I would try switching back to elite thermofiber. I had tried it for my very first install and didn't like it because I curled it and it looked all fried after a few days. So I bought some and installed it and after reading a few tips on here and other places I AM IN LOVE. Firstly, I’ve left it straight this time and it blends with my hair perfectly (after I gave myself a layered hair cut), secondly it is SO LIGHT that I feel like I’m not wearing any extensions at all. I used about 7 oz total.

I have discovered a few secrets to making it super soft and lovely.

1.      Wash it (it only needs to be washed once a week) with a diluted wash of Woolite;

2.      Condition it with Lavender and Vanilla Downy! It works so well, I can’t believe it! and it smells DIVINE!

3.      Flat iron it with VELVASIL and my FHI ceramic flat iron.

I wet the hair down with the velvasil and flat iron it out and it comes out so silky and soft that I can’t stop running my fingers through it.  I have to flat iron my own hair to match it, but that’s okay (my hair is naturally wavy).

So, I’m a total convert to synthetic!!! I’m going to keep using it instead of human (I will mostly likely do a reinstall of the indian I have, but it was so bulky that it’ll have be in winter). Also, my elite thermo is feeling fabulous and looking fabulous and is crazily easy to take care of, no products necessary, just the steps mentioned above. It's also so inexpensive. I was so tired of spending money on human that just didn't deliver - I even tried the bohyme (before the indian) (sorry ladies, I know you love this stuff) and I was very very disappointed. Cry

AND – I don’t have to deal with anymore disturbing lice experiences. Yay!

I thought I'd post another little trick I learned this weekend with the downy and elite thermofiber. I wet the ends down with downy (I usually use velvasil) and then flat ironed it. It came out so AMAZINGLY soft. Today (Monday) is day three after this experiment and the ends are still soft (not super soft like they were when I first did it, but soft).

do you water down the downy at all, or use it full strength? i have some elite thermo and its really pretty, but i've shyed away from installing it because i usually wear my hair with some curl....do you always wear yours straight, ever wavy/curly?.....i wish you'd post a pic of your hair!

HI Nursie,
I know, I know! LOL I have to get my husband to take one tonight and I'll post it up. I promise!

I keep the downy full strength, but obviously put it on while my hair is still very wet and then flat iron it so that probably waters it down a bit. The last time I used elite thermo I curled it and I didn't like the results (ends got fried - but I've learned how to fix that now!Smile and I don't know...it just looked odd to me when it was curled), so this time I've left it straight and I've been flat ironing my hair. I like it so much and I'm going to stick with it for a while (until I can afford some russian!). I am going to try to put a little wave in it this weekend using the downy and the velvasil and see if the curl comes out any better. I don't like  CURL just a wave so I'm not sure how I'll achieve that, but we'll see. Depending on my success, I'll post picies I promise!

Frenchie & Malibu

Frenchie - yours looks AMAZING! I read your post earlier today. I'm so sad the bohyme didn't work for me - but perhaps I just got a bad batch and I did get the bodywave. If I try it again I'll do the silky straight.

Yes, Malibu, the downy makes it smell INCREDIBLE. I was sniffing it all day Saturday. LOL

Cat_Goddess, I think the bohyme silky straight is more silky than the bodywave. The silky straight has some wave to it (slight) and I found it did tangle more than I would have hoped for.

Yes, that's what I have read too, that the silky straight texture was the one that has the longest longevity -not sure of this word!-
compared to FR or Bodywave...
Cat Goddess, I too have had a bad batch of Bohyme in the past. Now I only use handtied wefts and I have only had great hair
