Hi All! If you can't seem to narrow down the reason for your scalp itchiness or irritation - take a deep breath - the culprit may be your mousse that you can't live without! AAARRRGGG! Not my Mousse! :(The problem with almost every single mousse on the market is that they all contain, as their main ingredients, Alcohol, Propane and Butane. The latter two are rocket fuel and lighter fluid and are used as propellants to help the products foam up. All three are skin irritants. It may even take a while for the irritation to become apparent or may show itself in the damaged ends after a perm or color.Everbody - get thee to the room where you worship the porcelin god and check the ingredients on that can of mousse, forthwith and without delay. I don't find it at all comforting that after placing these ingredient on our head that we heat them up with a blowdryer.Solution: Go for the non-aerosol mousses that come out as a gel them foam up in your hand.Just my thoughts - Mickhael email@wwbeautystore.com http://www.WorldWideBeautyStore.com

Hi Mickhael,Thanks for the great info. I know that alcohol can be nasty, but I had no idea that it could also have propane and butane. YIPES.Karen> Hi All! Have you ever read the MSDS (materials safety data sheet) on any of these chemicals? Scary stuff! Even bottles of the pure chemical recommend wearing gloves when working with them. These are not things that, having studied as much chemistry as I have, I would put on my skin voluntarily.> Everbody - get thee to the room where you> worship the porcelin god and check the ingredients> on that can of mousse, forthwith and without delay.> I don't find it at all comforting that after placing> these ingredient on our head that we heat them> up with a blowdryer. Not only is it not comforting, but it is also dangerous. Accidents with a blowdrier are probably fairly unlikely, but I hate to imagine using these ingredients with a curling iron!!! Of course, allowing the mousse to dry a little before heating makes it fairly safe, as the ingredients are extremely volatile and evaporate very rapidly.> Solution: Go for the non-aerosol mousses> that come out as a gel them foam up in your hand.Or try Aveda's Phomollient, which contains none of these. (Which also means it doesn't smell quite so "chemical" - because those 3 chemicals are volatile, they have quite a strong scent, which then has to be covered with the fragrances added to the mousse. These can also cause irritation, and I'm even allergic to many of them!) I can't wait until I finish my bottle of it, so I can take apart the pump and figure out how they get it to foam up!> Just my thoughts - Mickhael email@wwbeautystore.com> http://www.WorldWideBeautyStore.comGood thoughts!Laura Jane lswanson@sunflower.bio.indiana.edu

Thanks Mickhael & Laura Jane,I just checked out my mousse ingredients...and sure enough...there was everything you said. I was shocked.I would never have thought about this if you had not mentioned this.Do all mousses have these ingredients?Cass>> All three are also very flammable, and not> at all good for you.
