QuoteReplyTopic: Need something new for long, brown hair- any suggestions welcomed! Posted: January 12 2000 at 2:07am
Hello-I have basically reached the end of my rope, and it brought me here. I just moved, and always have the worst luck finding a new hairstylist. I need a haircut badly, but want to try something different, if possible. I am interested in finding a cut that flatters my face, but is not too radically different. To sum it up...I have a round face, short body. For the last 7 years I have kept my hair length around the middle, or just past it, of my back. My hair is brown w/ auburn-like highlights. It is not very thick, and fine in texture. Naturally, it is mostly straight, with a teeny bit of wave. Right now, I am at the end of a spiral perm. You know, straight on top, curly on bottom (it doesn't look as bad as it sounds! :-)Because of the damaged ends, I would be willing to go shorter, say, just below the shoulders. But what would look good for a round face? Do bangs flatter or fatten a round face? (I do not have bangs). I have an extreme urge to get something done soon, but without a specific idea of what I want, I am very afraid of a hairstylist taking liberties. I am sure you all know what I mean. Thanks for any suggestions, or opinions.Kriska

Browse some photo galleries until you find a style that catches your eyes. (Check out the hair boutique phots galleries!) In the meantime, get a bit of a trim (blunt, no layers) to help get rid of the damage and try some new products to protect your hair from future damage. Find someone with nice looking hair that's not too short, and find out who cuts their hair. DO NOT just walk into any old salon or you may regret it (I speak from experience!)! After the trim, buy a book on braiding and experiment with updos to help keep yourself pacified until you are sure that a shorter look that is truly right for you. Regular trims may be enough to calm your hair cutting urges. If you decide to cut bangs, I would keep them wispy and subtle if I were you. Thick bangs make round faces look even more round, in my opinion. Good luck!
Be really sure about what you want done before you go into the salon. I did the same thing that you are talking about went with an unsure state of mind didn't take into much consideration about my options and ended up walking out of the salon in shock with 8" chopped off of my hair.I have naturally curly hair and had it high-lited, wanted more got it done two more times, then it was too chunky so I had the top dyed twice, then I didn't like it. So I did the thing that we all do when we are frustrated with are hair. Walked into the salon being brave and agreeing with the stylist "let's cut it" and put ugly layers in it.I cried for a week every day after work. It has not even been a month and I keep kicking myself because it was the longest length my hair had ever been. Now I am remembering all the stages of growing, right now it sits on my shoulders and by the end of the day it fluffs up to my ears.So my suggestion is just get 1/8" cut off, go for a deep conditioning treatment and maybe a new style not a cut. This is until you are one hundred percent sure about getting your hair cut to your shoulders. When you are sure, first go in for a consultation go home sleep on it for a week then go and get the cut. Good Luck! and Don't let them talk you into anything you'll regret.
