I was reading every post about What I saw on Oprah and my hair ended up straight up from shock to some commentsThe comments that really got under my skin are the following:1. Courage to cut your hair? 2. You make a statement " Lookat me!" this is a sign of maturity. 3. The young people take the easy way out by letting their hair grow.My first question that I am asking myself if this the same STeve or Stephen that totally insulted every long hair women on the long hair site and I was pissed at him. I am wondering if I am having a round two with this man.It doesn't take any courage to cut your hair or but to shave it one might have to think 30 minutes more. YOu make a statement " look at me" well I deal with that sort of thing with my twelve year old not a mature person. children needs to make the statement look at me not adults. I will defend all the young people . They know what they want in style. They know what is in style for them etc. If they decide to grow their hair it is because its an expression of themselves and don't feel that having red , pink , orange , blue hair is them.Since when its a sign of maturity to be the following . If the trend on the planet is to have a polky dot hair style would it make people more mature to follow that trend? I don't think it has anything to do with maturity. I have long hair and I plan to have my hair a hell of lot longer and I am way more mature than some people that I know around me. When I got married I had short hair and I desired long hair but my hairdresser at the time cut more than it was growing. It started to gforw when I change hairdressers. To end this I am wondering why is there such a man on this site that is so much for short hair. That would be my question to him as it is well know that long hair is the fantasy of most men amonst other things.

I think its important for people with long hair to engage in the same kind of tolerance that they expect from others. Everyone has a right to their own preferences, long or short. The problem arises when people attempt to force their view or preference on someone else by using marginal logic or overt psychological blackmail to accomplish that. Keep in mind, Diane, that this is not TLHS and many people who prefer short hair come here for advice as well. They deserve our consideration too. Stephen's comments were offensive not because he is a lover of shorter hair styles but because he used ridiculously illogical and lamely generalized reasoning to support his view that if a person had emotional maturity they would by definition then choose to cut their hair. To attack short hair in and of itself is to engage in the same types of discrimination and judgmentalism that is often directed at long haired people. Reversing the judmental viewpoint is just engaging in the same behavior that we're trying to eliminate and serves no one. We need to be a bit more sensitive in expressing our personal preferences and be sure to indicate that they are OUR preferences alone, valid for no one but ourselves. That's the way to real acceptance and tolerance of the sanctity of individuality. Not flaming here, just making an observation.Best wishes to everyone! Wear your hair how YOU want. As long as its naturally healthy its all beautiful!Dawn

Now that is my personal feeling and cannnot be changed.. It will always be part of many men fantasies including lingerie etc.I can understand that there are some short hair women such yourself that comes to this site for advice. Why would you feel that I am attacking you as a short hair woman? My sister is a short hair woman and I love her and so are many of my female friends.I don't think I am better than them but the message that Stephen was saying was that having long hair isn't mature right?I think I struck a nerve with you and maybe that is something you need to concentrate about and not accuse me of something I didn't do or say.

I had my head shaved for a few months in college and I got a LOT of dates. My best friend is a guy with mid-back length hair (beautiful by the way... I'm jealous!) and his girlfriend has a short pixie cut. I dunno... most guys I know like girls with soft healthy hair, given that they may prefer it longer or shorter... but mostly men like the hair that's attached to a woman they love. :-)-jj

I am married for fifteen years. I have one girlfriend that was teasing me about the fact that I will almost 40 and I should cut my hair and now I see that she is growing her hair. I know a teacher friend of mine that talked against long hair for the longest time and lately I seem her she had her hair down to her bras strap. Yes I will agree that many women are beautiful no matter what and I will share something with you. My sister used to be a model and she is thinking of shaving her hair. We off the topic. I was accused of knocking down short hair women. I am not against short hair women. My comment was that I don't understand men that don't desire women with long hair. And for some reason Dawn mistook that and thinks I hate short hair which is totally off the wall type of comment for me. I am a very strong believer of long hair and I wish more women would grow their hair. I have to think that way and lucky for me I am surrounded by men that desires long hair women.

Hai, I am Stephen and am trule sorry if I offended anybody: that was never my intention. I love diversity and those who know me appreciate how human feelings are high on my list. To those that I may have offended: please accept my sincere apologies. The ensuing converstaion has shown that strong views exist on either side of the debate: why 'must men fantasies about women with long hair', for instance. I strongly prefer short hair and so does my loving wife of many years. Fortunately other women do as well and they don't all do it because 'fashion requires them to do so'. Let's continue to enjoy our preferences and I wish those who decide to cut their hair an understanding hairdresser, who will coach them to a suitable style, rather than rap them in a cape and buzz some unshapely style in a short period. I will follow the debate with great interest.
