I'm 27, have "winter" dark-blonde hair, with no graying. I am try to decide between highlighting my hair or lightening it all-over with a permanent color (lighter blonde). I'm rather conservative (in the Air Force) and can't have anything "wild"...but really need a pick-me-up. Any suggestions? At-home or salon? Highlights or all-over? Thanks!

Thanks!if this is your first time considering highlighting, I would suggest not all over. Try a foil highlight in salon or a cap frost if your hair is short. If going to a salon, it is nice if you can find a picture of how you would like the highlight to look as there are so many possibilities. That way the stylist is sure of your expectations. Solid color works nice too and gives body, but I would have to write a book on precautions and what to avoid. Streak highlighting is popular because it avoids strong line of demarkation so less maintenence is necessary.

I have natural medium ash brown (no color!) hair that I had highlighted with lighter blonde highlights for nearly 15 years. I would suggest getting a foil highlight vs. all over color because it is definitely effective in giving you a brighter, prettier color. I had foil highlights all over my head & always couldn't wait to get them done because it picked up the color & brightened me up so much. I, too, am conservative so you can achieve the results you want from this technique without going overboard. The hardest part is finding just the right shade of blonde to use for the highlight. Another plus is that it looks very natural even when it grows out.Good luck!Kelly F.

Also "Redken Shades Above" can also be used either in an all over color or as a highlighting color for only a 'one level of lift' for a very subtle change and unsurpassed after color conditioning of your hair.william
