QuoteReplyTopic: Round Brush/paddle? Drying Straight? Posted: January 12 2000 at 3:41am
Okay, I may be opening myself up for a "duh" or something, but when I try to blow dry my hair straight using a round brush, I get curly-on-the-ends hair. I have chin/jaw length hair with bangs (which get especially curly with this method). I think I am pulling the brush taught, but my hair doesn't "stick" on the end, you know? I mean, it just slides off when I get to the ends. The round brush I use is of a good diameter, according to the woman at Sally's (who sold it to me) for straightening hair. What am I doing wrong? Do I need one of those obscenely large round brushes, even though my hair isn't long? Should I use a paddle (flat backed brush)? How about some discussion on this topic? I know a lot of people blow their hair straight..and I'd like to join the club!
My hair is currently chin-length (I cut it two nights ago!) and I alternate use between one of the huge round brushes and a medium round brush. If I want a somewhat sleeker look I go with the bigger of the two, but for more volume I actually use the smaller one. My hair used to slip off the brush, as well, but I haven't had any problems since I started rubbing a bit of Nature's Gate Jojoba Conditioner into my ends and then lightly spraying the hair before shaping it with the brush. Hope this helps!
> I have in the past used a large and small round brush, and I find myself having the same problem as you! Then I bought a metal vent paddle brush, which when blowing my hair downwards makes it soft, shiny and straight! The metal also helps it dry faster, so there is no time for it to curl back up [I also use no staightening products and have never chemically straightened it]
I normally air dry my hair so I'm very ignorant about straightening with a hair dryer. I have elbow lenght wavy hair. I have read the threads about brush shape and smoothing serums with interest. I tried this yesterday for the first time with mixed results. The front of my hair is much more straighter than the back.Do you blow dry and brush at the same time - or do you have a blast of hot air, brush a bit and then more hot air? Should you start from the top of your head or the bottom? Is a brush essential or can you use a comb? Does it matter which direction you are aiming the air in?
