Hi,Can anyone help me better define the kind of layers I want? It seems all I can ever get is a sort of "friends" shaggy, jaggedy layered look. My hair is all one length to my chin (except my bangs which I just unfortunately cut myself) and then it is layered from my chin to my shoulders. It is fine but naturally wavy and it always looks like a mess. What I want is a few layers to give it lift yet without the layers being obvious in and of themselves. Also, I'm looking for a style that works WITH my wavy hair, as I'm sick of beating it into submission every day to get that poker straight look that is so hot right now. Stylists don't seem to be willing to deviate from that either, even though I ask for that.I'm trying to grow it out but am on the verge of hacking it all off if I can't get a decent style soon. Thanks :)

My hair is exactly the same as yours, only very thick and coarse, with waves. I have the same problem! Hairdressers just want to chop into the last bit from chin to shoulders making it look, well, choppy. I have decided to grow it all for a few months and in the meantime try and find the solution. I too am looking for a style like yours - with layers at the bottom, instead of chop. Are hairdressers incapable of doing this?

Tell your stylist you want long layers.Better yet.. bring in a picture.

Unfortunately it seems your hair has been layered on the upper layers of the hair giving it the 'shaggy' look that you speak of. These take a long time to grow out. You might think about a very soft perm to camoflage the layers that is already cut into your hair without having to lose a lot of length. This will let the top layers grow out and by trimming only the longer bottom lengths of your hair in a blunt type cut, it will give you more bulk and body without having to resort to a very short cut. william

Tell your stylist> you want long layers.Better yet.. bring in a picture.Hello jjI have the same problem as the other two have spoken about. My hair was cut in short layers, and I have been growing it out for a long, long time, and I am now down to one that is shorter then the length of my hair. I have thick hair, and also had a spiral perm, hated it and combed through a perm solution to straighten it. Now it is dry and fuzzy. After reading your post, I was thinking maybe to get away from the puffiness of my full hair and the fuzziness of the damage from the perm, it might be good to go with long layers as you said. I think bringing in a picture would be a great idea. One showing long layers. Do you know of any on the web?ThanksLynn
