I went to Sallys to buy some Uncolor or Metalix to remove a semi-permanet color that my hairdresser put over a recent permanent color but the semi turned out too dark. They said at Sallys that the only sold those products to hairdressers so do I just need to wait till the semi color fades till I can put a permanent color over it to get it back to the color I want or is there something else I can do?Also if your hair is short ( earlevel) do you still need to put a lighter color at the roots to counteract the heat factor and if so how do you do that if you are mixing more than two shades of color together to get a particular shade? Thanks again for all your helpSusannah

I too had the same experience. I also went to a Sally's looking to purchase Uncolor and was told I couldn't purchase it unless I was a licensed hair stylist.I then went to a small local supply store that didn't carry Uncolor, but did let me purchase Metalex because it was only to remove semi.

i dont know about Uncolor, but Metalex can also be found at other drug stores, other than Sallys. I've noticed that depending on which Sally's you go to, they can be more or less strict about that sold-only-to-hair-stylists policy. i've also found that if you just tell them you're a hair stylist, they dont necessarily ask for any proof of it.
