QuoteReplyTopic: HELP! COVER UP or CUT OFF? Posted: January 12 2000 at 5:35am
I had a professional put some streaks in the front of my hair a week or 2 ago, & I have very dark hair. So, what she had to do was first strip the color out & then put a color over top. I wanted it red, but it came out orange. I went back to have her fix it & it basically did the same thing. I don't mind it too much but my husband HATES it! So anyhow my question is this: I have some permanent color at home to cover grey hair. I thought about either just covering it up OR just getting my hair totally cut. Its already pretty short, but I love short hair! Will the permanent color be really bad on the parts that were stripped? My hair is DARK brown (almost black) & I was just going to put a black color in it. I would just like an opinion please.Thank you--Brandie
Brandiethe hair that was lightened will really "take" whatever other color you put on it, because that streaked part is probably very porous from the previous highlight processing. if you decide to fill it in, i suggest you leave the new color on those highlighted areas for much less time than you normally would--keep a close eye on how the color develops. you may even need to use color on all your hair to even it out, and have the color look consistent.

I am not a professional, but I think the best bet is to have a professional put the color back into the streaks. When you remove color, you remove natural pigments, my guess is you would need a filler before adding the black back. For a few streaks of hair, it would be well worth it, instead of messing up all of the hair and then wanting to cut it off. The color you have at hoem may only be semi-perm and fade out.
>Everyone keeps mentioning fillers and I am having a problem finding information on where to purchase them, are there different varieties (name brands), and how to properly use them. I need to put some color back into my hair after using a pale blonde for many years. I did go to a salon two months ago and explained my problem, but the gold blonde they used, (while rather dark for the first week), completely faded after a few weeks). Maybe there was a language problem when I tried to explain what I needed, because I live in Holland and my Dutch is not perfect. Before that, I always did my hair myself and was always satisfied. Now, I would just like to go just a little darker and if I can find the right products here, I will do it myself. Any help and suggestions is greatly appreciated! Thanks.Kelly>>>>>>>>
