I apologize in advance for the long post:My hair is dark brown and I have white hair growing in now. I also have a relaxer. I had been using a Mahogany celaphane to cover the gray but got tired of the red highlights. I would like to go to a basic brown or a lighter brown. I'm thinking that my white hair will show as highlights and this does not bother me. What is the best hair color product for me to use to achieve what I want? Perm, Semi-perm, rinse. Also is it true that Celaphanes condition the hair. I've heard various thoughts from not to color and relax on the same day and that Celaphanes are 'good' for your hair so not to worry. I really do not want to get a relaxer and walk around with white roots and then spend more time back in the salon getting a color the following week.I appreciate any thoughts!
In response to your question on what type of product to use, I must first tell you to to have a proffessional do your color. The best type of product depends on the quality of your hair at this point. Since you have had relaxers applied, and I believe you wish to grow them out, I can tellyou that the type of product you use will depend on the integrity of your hair. Your safest bet would be a semi permanent hair color with a conditioner base, not a silicone base. In reference to growing out your relaxer the best thing to do is to have regular trims and conditioning treatments until your hair is back to its natural state.
>hello,I highly recommend Aveda's custom color conditioning line. They will custom blend it for you in the shop (wide variety of colors). You leave the conditioner on for 5-30 minutes, and it imparts color to your hair to a greater or lesser extent, depending on the condition and porosity of your hair. Since it's a completely natural product, with no ammonia or bleach, i see no reason why you couldn't use it immediately after any relaxing process. Your hair will likely be more porous, so the color would likely take very well, quickly.I use the Aveda custom color conditioner on my dry, previously colored hair. It adds a noticeable intensity of color that you can deepen with every shampoo/conditioning. The color intensifies the more you use it, but can also be removed (just stop using it and it will eventually wash out). It will make gray hairs look like highlights. i suggest you visit www.aveda.com if you'd like more info.silvie:)

Silvie, Michelle thank you for the feedback.Michelle, I will say that I always have my hair professionaly done, relaxers and colors. I believe that my hair is in good condition as my current hairdresser has told me however, I have been shedding a lot lately.I am thinking about trying the Aveda coloring product. My current hairdresser at my last appointment used a color (can't remember the name) that did not require heat to set in. But 5 weeks later I can say that I prefer the Celephane. One last question about color: I do like the lighter hair colors that some of the African American entertainers are sporting, can I achieve this as well with white hair or what will the results be. Do I have to use something that is very harsh such as bleach to strip my natural color?
