Hello, I left a post before but no one replied. In the area I live (Central Florida) it seems like perms are making a huge comeback. Alot of my friends have gotten great perms. Also, whenever I go to a restaurant or a store there are alot of women with permed hair. The strange thing is is that these perms look fantastic, not like the frizzy perms of the 80's. I am seriously thinking about getting a perm myself in the next two weeks. I have heard that there are perms nowadays that don't really damage your hair (ISO perms). Are there any fashion savy people out there that know the latest hair styles?

perms have come a long way in the past 10 and even 5 years. the ones done in-salon, that is! they are much less harsh and, consequently, i suspect more women are now willing to get them, especially if they had foregone them before because of the damage it would inflict on their hair. similarly, perms now can offer a variety of results, depending on the type used and the method in which the hair is rolled. definitely consult with a professional about the best type for your hair, given the results you want to achieve. bring along pictures of permed/curly hair that you would like to have. do not try a home perm! they are harsh and unpredictable!as far as the trends go--there is still a faction that is leaning toward super straight hair, but with a slightly softer look. also, crimping (a la the 70's) is making a return, as is feathered hair. sadly ( to my mind), the bowl cut is also coming back. those are the trends in NYC. I dont really know what is happening in Florida, but perhaps it's similar.good luck :) silvie

My opion is that if you have straight hair then go with straight if your hair is naturly curly then go with curly. Permed and straighten hair aren't natural looking. Natural is the most beautiful thing you can do with hair. Perms aren't coming back at least not in Texas. Don't change your hair to look in stlye but to look good on you, and you natural look is probably the best look for your hair.

Where I live it seems that women are going with their natural texture, whatever that is -- be it straight, wavy or curly. I wonder, Sherry, if perhaps some of the anonymous strangers you see with curly hair might actually have naturally curly hair, not a perm?Dave
