I have to code it myself. I'm pretty new to e-commerce so I have the beginner's bells & whistles on it. I do some high volume especially around Christmas that makes me have to stay on top of things pretty tight. Maybe someday I can have something advanced like that but I can pretty much keep up with it every day.
Kristin -
Sorry for the delay.
OK, sign into your PayPal account. Click on the Merchant Tools tab. Select Accepting Website Payments/PayPal Shopping Cart.
In the box that says "Item Name/Service:" you'll type in something like "18 inch Pre-tipped Pink Hair Strand" (Or however you want it listed. Just make sure it's self-explanatory to you because this is your invoice that you'll be using to fill your orders.)
The "Item ID/Number: (optional)" is up to you if you want to catalog your inventory. I personally do not use this feature and leave this blank.
In the "Price of Item/Service you want to sell:" put in the cost of the item. Do not use a dollar sign but put a decimal point in to separate dollars and cents. ex: 1.80
Under "Currency" select United States so overseas buyers funds automatically change to US dollars.
"Buyer's Country" is optional and nothing needs to be selected.
"Select an Add to Cart button" - you can see there's a default button that PayPal provides and it's automatically selected for you. Or, you can create your own and there is a place for you to refer to your own uploads.
Click on "Create Button Now" and you will see code In the box marked "Add to Cart Button" - copy and paste this html code into your web site and place it next to/on top of/underneath the photo of your item or wherever you want it in your site. If you're using Front Page or another type of WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) type of web page maker, you can see what it looks like before uploading to your FTP server.
Now, instead of doing this through PayPal for every single item you have, all you have to do is paste the same code for all your different items and manually change the "item_name" value and the "amount" value that's inside the quotes (the 6th and 7th brackets, respectively).
Each item you're selling that you want to have the option of putting into a cart will have to have this code. You'll have to play with its positioning to see where it looks best and how you like it lined up with your item.
SHIPPING OPTIONS:
Click on the "My Account" tab up at the top. Select "Profile" just underneath the top bar and all the way to the right. Under "Selling Preferences" select "Shipping Calculations." Make sure "currency" selection indicates U.S. Dollar.
Under Cost Method/Description, I have personally chosen to use "Flat Amount" because I can use different pricing ranges depending on the weight of soap that's bought. This ensures the buyer isn't getting hosed on inflated shipping rates.
Under Cost and Price Ranges, the left column will be the amount that will automatically show up with each price range you select. If someone orders just a couple strands of hair and the cost is $5.00, you can set the shipping at $.50 cents or whatever. You can now go onto the next price range and set $5.01 - $10 orders with a $2.00 shipping rate. You can set these ranges to whatever you wish and you can change them any time you want. PayPal will automatically adjust shipping charges and the buyer will see them BEFORE the end of their checkout so there's no surprises for anyone.
Click "Save" when you have all your price ranges set.
After uploading, go to your web site and add things to your cart and proceed through the checkout process to make sure everything's working right. Your buyers will have a choice of using their PayPal account or a credit card if they don't want or have PayPal.
OTHER OPTIONS:
There's numerous other options available like drop down boxes so only one box can be used for multiple items (ex: hair strands in 20 different colors). You can play in those areas and see what you want to use or I can help you with those later if you decide to change.
This should get ya goin' for now. Let me know how it works.
Damn, that soap looks delicious! Good for you that you're coding the site yourself; even if you upgrade to a database-driven platform eventually, it's always helpful to manage a site yourself via coding, imo. And the site looks awesome, by the way.
HairQueen, I don't have a Web site; I've just done a fair amount of Internet work, so I was curious. Big, corporate sites are usually built around integrated platforms that automatically update everything (those systems are very robust and expensive), but a friend of mine recently launched a small-business site that was built on database with inventory (which is pretty impressive). Someone designed it for her, and she's not a techie so she didn't know much about the specifics. I was just asking AMM about hers, because I don't know whether those capabilities are available through affordable Web-building packages.
Usually the colored streaks tend to get wavy after they are washed (they are not the Bohyme brand). As of right now I don't carry any other types of hair in the funky colors but I am going to a hair convention this weekend so we'll see if I can find anything. What color(s) are you interested in?
A convention - I would go crazy at a place like that I am looking for something that would look good with my reddish med. brown hair. Nothing too drastic (the dark red looked bad against my hair color but looked great on my sisters who has red/orange hair). I am looking for some really nice highlights in a lighter reddish brown. Thanks for looking Kristen.
They are like the brushes that I already have listed on my site. I love them. I can brush all the way to my scalp with out getting the brush caught in my extensions. Check my site for the pictures and description.
Oh yeah.... I got NEW funky colors in stock!!!!! Wooooo Hoooooo! I've got some pictures up in my online shop so feel free to check them out.
The site's looking great, Kristin! Congratulations on building it so quickly and so well. And I just saw the picture of you on the before-and-after page with the barrette (I think that one's new), and I love it! Along with the red-and-blonde photo on your sig here, that's my favorite look of yours I've seen yet. :)
hahaha kristin, i guess i should have checked your site... i just saw someone mentioned them and i thought, "THAT'S SOMETHING KRISTIN SHOULD SELL!" lol
