QuoteReplyTopic: Bad highlight toner color Posted: December 09 2001 at 6:25pm
Ok, I had my dark brown hair chunked blond. i had had it highlighted b4 so the girl chunked some pieces and dyed the rest brown. Well, the toner she put on my chunks looks orange! I dont know if the toner is permanant or not. In the past, the toner has washed out but I`ve washed it twice and it doesn`t seem to come out yet. Should I keep washing it or have something done to it to bring it back to blond? Please help!

First I have a couple of questions. 1) Is this your usual hair designer? or do you jump around? 2) What color highlights did you ask for? Blonde or some form of red? If red-what kind of red? 3) Is your hair REALLY dark brown or is that what you perceive? I`ve found in my profession that people don`t really know what thier color is, what they call dark may actually be medium, etc. Can`t really give you advise without knowing what you asked for. Usually toners are permanent, you can`t wash them out. But they do fade away after about 4 weeks or so. Is this your usual hair designer? If so, you should return to THEM for this advice. If she isn`t, keep us posted.
1) No it is someone new. And she is a colorist and cost $99. I went to this one b/c my usual one did my highlights wrong before. I asked for chunks and she gave me small highlights, which made my whole head look lighter. This girl did it right, just the color is wrong. 2) I asked for blond. Not red. I believe she thought there would be too much of a contrast between my dark hair and the big blond chunks so she went with "caramel", and got orange. I even said I liked it the way it was BEFORE the toner was put in and she said she didn`t think so. 3)I believe my natural color is a dark, medium brown to dark brown. I have dark eyes, which look black, and dark eyebrows. So it is not medium or light brown.
I called this new girl back and she said she would put a glaze on it...what will this do? i think this will wash out too. I called my old stylist back and she suggessed washing with Ivory dishwashing detergent, which I did, twice. Then once more with regular shampoo. So a total of 6 times since I had it done. No change. The orange is especially noticeable by the roots. On another board, a girl said to have her REMOVE the toner. What do you think?

Well-obviously washing won`t take out what you don`t want, don`t try washing with anything else. Go back to the new girl and let her put the glaze on. She will probably put on something to counter-act the orange, which will be a good thing. You probably won`t be a blonde, but I`m sure whatever it is will be better than orange. If she`s real good, she can fix it. Also, since you weren`t happy with what she did, the glaze SHOULD be no charge(I can`t speek on their behalf). The reason being you said you liked the color it was and she insisted on toning, therefore it was her mistake. I would have listened to the customer, even if I didn`t like it. Don`t forget to CONDITION, CONDITION, CONDITION! Please e-mail me with further updates. I can`t wait to hear!
