Okay all. I`ve been doing some serious thinking lately. For the past two years I have been trying to grow my hair out. It`s now about 2 inches below my shoulders and is pretty fine and thin. It grows on the slow side too. I love having long hair and it`s a security blanket for me and want it to grow as long as it can go. The problem is that sometimes I look at pictures and I think it looks so scraggily and stuff. I don`t know if I`m using too heavy of stuff or if it`s hit it`s limit. I used to have it halfway down my back when I was younger but my eating habits have changed and I think my hair has changed too. I`m trying everything but even for work I usually tie it back in a pony tail or just the top half because fixing it takes some much effort for me such as blowdrying and curling it. I don`t like to do that stuff anyways because of the damage. So anyways, after I`ve rambled a bit, what I`m in the process of doing is deciding to get it cut or just kepe trying to grow. I have a hair appt. for next tuesday for a trim and if I decide I might just get it done then. It would be because I`m graduating from college and will be looking for jobs plus the maintenance would be easier. I just don`t know. I just wish I had thicker hair so it would be easier to maintain and handle when it`s longer. See my theory was to grow it now while I`m young and can pull it off(maybe) and then cut it when I get older because I know I`ll have to anyways with the texture of my hair combined with age. It`s never been above my shoulders except for once but I`m afraid that`s the route I`m slowly heading. Just wish it didn`t have to end this way. I`ve tried everything.

Aww...don`t give up just yet. I think you`re just hitting the rut we all have when growing out hair. And who said you have to cut it when you`re older? I recently made my 50-something mom grow out her hair and it`s approaching shoulder length (she had a typical mommy haircut before...above the ears short)...she said she doesn`t know when she`ll cut it.

I`ve hit various ruts and regret cutting it later. I`ve also thought about cutting my hair to make myself look older once I get out of grad school to look more professional. I realized being professional is based on attitude and not looks.

You didn`t really say what condition your hair is and what you`ve been using on it...Lord knows my hair is in horrible condition from a year`s worth of abuse. I`m growing it out now because I`m too lazy to get trims and I miss putting my hair in a braid...plus my hair grows too fast to maintain the trendy haircuts I used to get...and I always needed conditioner of some sort, even when I had a pixie. heh heh, okay I have even more reasons, but i`ll stop. =) Oh yeah, I`ve been growing out a pixie cut since `00.

Anyway, hang in there...post here for support...or if you don`t find it here, go to longhairlovers.com--they`ve got a great support system over there, too.

hths =)

Thanks for the pep talk. I just started to remember the old times when it was much easier to care for and since I`m a lazy bum that`s what I was focusing on. But now I remember how much I despised having it that short and couldn`t wait for it to get long. I guess I just want the best of both worlds and with my hair I can`t have that. The reason I also realize that I will probably need to cut my hair when I get older is that my hair is very thin and fine now and with age your hair gets even thinner. My aunt has beautiful thick hair down to her waist. So does my sister but I was blessed with the thin hair of the family. And I`m the only one that likes long hair. Kind of ironic.
I did call my sister and a friend and they told me to wait until I came home for spring break to even consider it. They know me too well now and since my hair grows at a snails pace they also know I will be complaining forever if I do something rash.
So again. Thanks for the help. I`m sure I`ll hit another rut in a few weeks or so. It seems to come about the same time as other monthly things. Think it`s the hormones.
