I'm trying to grow to waist length. I recently stretched my relaxer for 12 weeks and had 2.5 inches of new growth, so I guess that's good progress...almost an inch a month. I CO washed everyday for 70% of my stretch, used protein once a week, baggied at night (helped retain length), did protective styles. Now I am 2 weeks post relaxer, and I have started shampooing and conditioning my hair everyday, letting it air dry hanging down (or else it would never dry) and putting it into a protective style for the rest of the day. I still baggie at night.

sista I went to your fotki and your hair is beautiful! My younger sister's hair is about your length (Mine would be there too if it wasn't for cutting in 03.) and she doesn't take care of it well. I need to show her your album!! I hate to see great hair go to waste.
Also Sista, when your hair was about shoulder length, did you have trouble finding protective styles or styles to put it in when your new growth came in?? That is my problem right now and i'm 1.5 inches past shoulder length (maybe 2, i'm not sure.)
Well honeydoo- I have been wearing buns daily since I started my growth challenge. My hair never really grew past the length it was in June. (Which was a little past shoulder length). . . I bunned even then. Alternating between donut buns and just plain bantu knot style buns. I always do the same routine after I wash-- I just wash, condition, apply a leave in, water based moisturizer, and finally seal with an oil. I comb back into my bun and tie down the front with a satin scarf until dry. Usually15 mins. My newgrowth dries flat and neat with the damp scarf method- even now at 16+ weeks post relaxer.
mysweetevie... alot of people have great success with the crown and glory method... on www.growafrohairlong.com some of testimonies are of women from other sites, such as www.longhaircareforum.com and others. You can check that out.
I am trying to grow my hair out evenly all the way around. It keeps getting longer in the center of the back but the sides and front are noticably behind. I've heard that hair grows 1/2 inch per month but I definately think mine grows faster. However, I definately have more breakage in the top center area which is frustrating.
I wanna join too ....I am a 4a who hasnt had a relaxer in 4 months because I have been getting doobies at the dominican salon once every 2 weeks and wear a bun in between...i get my ends trimmed every 6 weeks...i dont have any particular routine....when my hair looks dirly I wash it with nexus moisturizing products...my hair is at the middle my shoulder blades and my short term hair goal is just below the bra strap and my long term is to my elbows.....my mom is half sioux indian and she always says that you should cut your hair when the moon is waxing not waning; it makes a difference....
Lilpeach!! My mom is 3/4 Sioux (and cherokee and black) and we do the same thing!!! SHe gets mad if I trim any other time!! It does make a difference because when the moon is waxing is when things grow the best, not just hair. It's also when the tide comes in the strongest. We have a tendency to retain more water at this time too which can effect the moisture to our hair at this time. (It's neat to know my family isn't the only one who follow these traditions.)
So, you cut your hair when it's waxing because it will grow back faster and if you cut it when it's waning it'll seem like it's taking forever to grow?

I want to grow my hair to just about an inch above bra strap. I wash and condition my hair weekly and get my ends dusted after every touchup. I relax my hair every 16-20 weeks. Before I joined hair forums, I would relax my hair every 25-30 weeks, but I cant seem to do that anymore because it seems to be growing faster now with better care.
