I have decided that I want to turn my light blonde bleached hair (naturally light ash brown) a few shades (just one or two, possibly three) darker.

I don't have the funds to go to a salon, so I'm hoping I could find something at Sally's, maybe a demi-permanent? But my hairdresser said a while ago that my hair likely couldn't hold color. By the way, I have some parts that are white, and other parts pale blonde.

I have heard that I should avoid green, brown, and violet-based formulas. And to tell the truth I feel like I'm in over my head (mmm, hair puns) in the dye department, so I was hoping someone could suggest a product at Sally's that will do what I am looking for?

I have done EXACTLY what you want to accomplish. (see my pics in my signature). What level is it? 10 or 9? What tone is your hair? Is it golden (warm) and you want to keep it that way? In order for it to hold you may have to use a protein filler, but Sally has Lock In Blonde that worked for me.

Do you have a pic?

I'm sure I can recommend something from Sally that will work. I think I still have one more Phase to go. I need to go a little more ash without getting green/gray.

Nicki:  Kelly's experience will probably be a world of help to you.  She very generously shared with the board all of her successes and some not so good experiences along her journey.  All of it was helpful to me (and I'm sure others) in learning about hair coloring.  Posting a picture is really helpful for people to provide information applicable to your situation.  It seems scary, but being patient, reading before hopping into something drastic and doing test strands (sometimes lots!) will help you gain the confidence and ultimately end up with what you like!  Good luck!  Maria

Thanks for the respondes! Well I don't have a digital camera so the best I can do is use pictures from the internet.

This is my hair now:  (BUT, the tone is uneven. It is darker near my roots, white at mid-length, and the ends are darker. Sort of yellow-y, not really golden.  So I guess a level 9. )

This is what I'm hoping to achieve:  (basically a warmer, golden medium blonde)

It would be nice if I could even out the tone in the process of darkening. But I'm worried that whatever I buy will just slide off my hair, especially the white areas.

One thing you need to remember is take it slow. You will get a better result that way. It may take a few times to get there, but using Demi will be better on your hair.

Although I haven't used it yet, I will be trying Clairol Complements Demi from Sally soon. Here is the color chart...... http://www.thecreativestudio.com/dispensary/pdf_html/en_sp_n ew_comp.htm

I'd suggest 10G Lightest Gold Blonde on top of using Lock In Blonde filler. It will be darker at first, then fade because of the porosity of bleached blonde hair. If after a couple of weeks, if it fades too light, then try mixing the 10G and 8G in 1/2 and 1/2 portions next. And if still too light, next time just 8G.

This might sound funny because you want to 'even out' your color. But, you might want to consider using a highlight cap. You can pull alot of hair through it and it might help your uneven strands blend in better......the sections you don't color might end up looking like highlights. Just a thought.

The thing I'm most concerned about THIS demi is your roots. It's deposit only and shouldn't lighten them much (if at all).

You could always try the Complements Permanent line for your roots only. They have the same colors.

My problem is the only line from Sally I have used is Loreal Feria Professional. It's a permanent line and although I was happy with it, I wanted to use something less harsh.

No matter what you do, DON'T DO YOUR WHOLE HEAD UNTIL YOU STRAND TEST!
