First of all, I`m not a hairstylist or any type of expert whatsoever. I`m just a person who holds a lot of interest in hair-related topics!
I do own a cosmetology textbook, however, and I was comparing your picture with the different facial shapes in it. It`s a little bit more difficult to tell with your face because your forehead is covered up.
I`d say a few things are certain, however. Your face does not appear to me to be oval, oblong, or pear-shaped. Here`s how the Milady textbook describes square:
"Straight hairline and square jawline; wide face."
However, there is another shape that might describe it as well. For a diamond face, Milady says,
"Narrow forehead, extreme width through the cheekbones, and narrow chin."
Without seeing your forehead, I might call your face diamond-shaped.
As far as hairstyles, Milady suggests this for square-shaped faces:
"Aim -- to create the illusion of length; offset the square features. The problems of the square facial type are similar to the round facial type. The style should lift off the forehead and come forward at the temples and jaw, creating the illusion of narrowness and softness in the face. Asymmetrical hairstyles work well."
And, for diamond-shaped faces, it suggests:
"Aim -- to reduce the width across the cheekbone line. Increasing the fullness across the jawline and forehead while keeping the hair close to the head at the cheekbone line helps create an oval appearance. Avoid hairstyles that lift away from t he cheeks or move back from the hairline.
Hope this info gives you a little more insight!

Oh wait -- I didn`t see the photo of you without bangs when I wrote my first post -- sorry!
Now that I see you without bangs, in my personal and totally unprofessional opinion, I definitely think it fits the "square" shape more than diamond (though I hate the word "square" to describe such a lovely face as yours!)
I think that a diamond shape would be a bit narrower on each side of the mouth than yours is. The picture without bangs really does clearly show the shape, I feel.
Your face shape is a HEART (L). The reason I say that is because of your chin. If your chin was more even and didn`t go down in to the shape it does it would be square. Look at Cameron Diaz (SPELLING), your face shape is simular and in mags hers is concidered a heart shape

Your face is square. I can say this with confidence because mine is too. It is hard to tell sometimes (a hairdresser told me) but I have found that I need some length in back to counteract the angularity of my face. Good luck!

While I agree with everyone`s opinions I have to say that after looking at 2,000 photos for the HB.com interactive style database I discovered some things from doing research. Face shapes can be a combo of 2 or even three shapes. Is that possible? Yep. Usually it is 2 shapes but sometimes 3. I read a really good article in a cosmetology magazine where it talked about how people got into this mode of thinking that their faces had to conform to a specific industry recogizned shape...thus the definitions for heart, square, round, oval, diamond, pear, long, angular, etc etc. Whereas the idea was to orignally just use shapes as a general rule of thumb, most people would say that faces are all unique and can be many things. Another thing the same article said was that PMS and other factors, lack or sleep can cause face shapes to be altered. I know that is true with my own round face which sometimes seems square and sometimes (thinner) more oval.
That is why the measurement theory was invented and so you can do the measurements and follow a mathematical solution.
and follow the measurements and then make a decision on your face shape.
To me your face looks square with a heart of diamond chin. You might want to look at your photos over a period of time and compare and see if the shape changes somewhat. People have even told me I had a square face and then later tell me it is round. See what I mean?
Best wishes, Karen

PS. I forgot to mention.....no one is right or wrong ever about face shapes, it is always subjective. So make any hair decisions based on what you feel. And yes, moms are a trip. :-)
