Hi! I had some lowlights of my natural color put in my hair on May 11th. I went back about a week later b/c it seemed that had faded to me. My hairdresser didn`t think so, but so re did them. It`s been about a week and a half now, and I think they have faded again. Nothing to drastic, but I was wondering if there was something she go do to prevent them from fading. Or if there was something I could do. I use Biologe clolr care shampoo+conditioner. If she went a half a shade darker next time would this help?
I had the same problem when I started with low-lights about two months ago. My hair is naturally dark blonde/light brown. However, I had lightened it so much it was severely damaged and un-natural looking. I wanted the low-lights done in a dark blonde/light brown so that my regrowth would start blending in. They looked wonderful the first week... then they all faded away. Next time,my hairdresser used the next darker tint. They are lasting much better now. However, it does take several applications of the low-lights before they start to "keep" if your hair is severely damaged by bleach. It takes a while for a the low-lights to build up on the hair shaft. The low-lights just won`t stay on damaged hair right away. You have to let them build up. Also, I started using Redken Color Extend shampoo and conditioner--which is wonderful. I hope this helped. If you have anymore questions, I`ll try to help. Good luck!
that sounds like the same thing I`m going through. I go back again July 11th, so should I ask her to go one shade darker than this time? My natural color is dark blonde/light brown too. However, I never bleached it I just used color to lighten it and I never did my ends only the roots, so I don`t think it was really damaged... Do you think if I pulled some hair through a cap with a darker color it would hold me over until I go back again? I could probably deal with it for the next month though...
Yes, I would have her use the next darker tint next time. It really helped me. At first, it looked too dark. But after a couple days, it was perfect. Did you know that it takes about 48 hours for hair dye to "oxidize?" Never judge a color result before two days. I wouldn`t do anything until you go back next month. You don`t want to put another color in it at home. I tried that route, too. It only made matters worse, because I had yet another color in my hair! You`ll never find the exact same shade they used in the salon. In addition to the low-lights, I would have her throw in a few highlights over the roots. It seems to help everything blend together nicer. Don`t give up! It`s taken me almost three months, but my color is finally looking good again. Hang in there and good luck!

Lele, if you have any red tone highlights they have a tendency to fade. I once had red highlights but within two weeks they would fade. The only thing I could suggest and even my stylist suggested is to put a red rinse in your hair whenever your highlights fade.

Hi,
Sorry about your lowlights. I actually had that problem a few times with my highlights fading really fast and I have tried a few things that seem to help a lot. I have highlights applied with Matrix SoColor and they are painted on over a cap (which takes forever but is worth it). I used to wash my hair right before I went to get the treatment but then I read that you should go with day old hair because the natural hair oils will help the hair grab the color better. So I started washing my hair the morning of the day before I had the highlights and sure enough, that seemed to help somewhat.
I also read that it is best to let the color "set" for 48 hours after the treatment. So in essence, no shampoo and conditioner until after the highlights for 48 hours.
So I tried that as well. I even waited 60 hours which drove me nuts because by the time it was time to do the shampoo my hair was all slicked back. :-)
What I discovered was that waiting 48 hours is just fine. Waiting longer really doesn`t seem to make a difference.
I also learned to apply a light jojoba based product on before I did the first shampoo. I always use a color enhancing shampoo. I use either the Mine Blue Monday which neutralizes brassiness or I use Aveda Chamomile for brighter blonde. Then I use the matching conditioners and seal with a cold final rinse.
My highlights seem to last a lot longer now so I am not sure what the main difference is but I have managed to keep the color lighter and brighter for a longer period.
I do need to mentioned that some color experts believe that the color shampoos are not effective because they wash down the drain when you rinse. I also know that some believe the opposite extreme and that the color shampoos can stain the hair.
I personally believe that they are a nice way to hold the color and that they work best when coupled with the color conditioners, which do penetrate the hair shaft better. At least in my humble opinion.
Hope that helps.
Best wishes, Karen
