QuoteReplyTopic: New color choice flopped! Posted: March 17 2008 at 9:46am
A few wks ago I used Color Fix to remove artificial color from my naturally dark brn hair-(I had been using over the counter color to add bronze tones-hair color had dark base) I badly wanted to lighten my hair to a carmel color and hoped to put a few lighter highlights in after that. Well-I think the dyed color removed ok--I applied L0real professional color Mega Browns in Caramel(naturally!) My hair came out healthy and glossy but still way too dark--my greys did seem to pick up the color I wanted-mostly around my face. Not bad--but this past wknd I took the plunge and bleached my hair-left on the max time to a mostly yellow color-some areas even a bit lighter. I Tried Ion color(wish now I'd used Goldwell)-bought a dark neutral blond for base and dark blond gold to break up a bit with highlights.I knew at least that my hair would probably process darker so I chose the dark blonde instead of the browns. (Carmel?!!) Well-hair is still darker than I want-thank God the gold tone color added SOME dimension. (a bit too red tho for my taste) Does anyone have any thoughts as to how I can actually get to a carmel shade with deep gold highlights? I guess I have to bleach AGAIN? Has anyone ever messed with bleaching again so soon? My hair is quite short and I try to take good care of it-seems OK after this coloring episode condition wise. Would appreciate any thoughts from anyone! I just don't seem to be getting it right..
When I think of caramel, I think of a light brown orangy color (the color of caramel in a candy bar). It sounds like you already have that, but that its too orange?
Before you remove the color again, you may want to consider trying a clarifying shampoo (or dishwashing liquid). It may remove enough of the color that you like it. Your hair is porous now, and you put an orangy color on top of yellow hair, so the redness and darkness may slide out fairly quickly under these harsh shampoos. (Condition well afterwards, it will also help some red slide out).
If you still want to redo it after that, even though your hair is very short, you run a risk of breakage bleaching it again, and it doesn't sound necessary. If you really want to remove the color, I would do colorfix again, it is less harsh. You will likely just wind up with the color you had after bleaching the first time.
The time doesn't matter, the only reason to wait is for your scalp to build up some oil to protect it during the next set of chemicals (2 days would do it). Waiting won't change anything for your hair.

Don't use bleach again. This will damage your hair too much. I would use a color remover again instead like Color Fix or Color Oops. Then use a demi in a medium golden blonde. This should turn out dark neutral blond since your hair will be porous and will fade to a more golden dark blonde.
