What is your opinion about this technique, they are suppose to be the #1 Hair extension company, are they living up to the name in your opinion? ARe there any African American women that used this company before, if so how was your experience? Please share your good, bad and ugly thoughts about Great Lengths? I'm considering adding this service to my resume to attract a broader clientele, just wanted to get a few reviews on it before my training.
For those of you who might have a bad review about G.L. did you ever look at the technician who applied it for you and did he/she follow up with you for maintainence and hair care? Please add that to your response because alot of people tend to blame the product and not the technician.
Thanks in advance

Great lengths RUINED my hair. Granted, I wore them for about 3-4 years, but lets just say I had little hair left and I took a 2 year break to grow my hair back out. I would never use that method again, and believe me, I followed every single instruction on washing, sleeping, brushing..you name it. For very fine hair like mine, there are certainly better/safer methods, IMO.
I must say I had a bad experience with GL. I am a Caucasian so can only speak in reference to that but I just did not like the hair (Indian Temple) It was too fluffy for my texture. I had asked for bone straight, fine hair and that just did not happen. It was much too expensive and I only wore it for three months and did not continue. The hair was tossed out once I had them removed. I also had some breakage and damage around my ears on the sides but since I only wore the hair for three months, luckily not too terribly bad. The hair was a mess after the first month in all honesty. Too much bulk and a poor texture match. Would not use that system again.

I too wore GL for about 2 years, and same here...I had very little hair left from all the breakage...I love the quality of thier hair, just not the side effects of the install....Plus the install time is so long and the take out time is just as long....I use the tape/ glue method now and have been for about 2 years and Just this last install a couple weeks ago i can say my hair is back to its old length when I started using GL....Would not recommend for the price you pay for them you can get a years worth of the tape/glue install.
Great Lengths has a long ugly history on this forum.. I'd say an overwhelming majority of the ladies who have reviewed it had breakage issues.. Not to mention the SUPER high cost, and the inconsistent quality of the hair.. You might want to do a search and do some reading before you ventur down this road.. there are much less costly fusion and strand by strand options, with much more successful results available.

Best Shampoo/Conditioner for micro ring Posted: June 08 2008 at 6:27am
Hi! I am new to the forum, but NOT new to hair extensions. I've worn them for years and had GreatLengths
and fusion for about 5 years. I am coming off a 2.5 year 'break' from
extensions, hoping my hair would grow out naturally. *sigh* I'm about
to embark on DIY micro ring extensions.
My question is, (and I am sorry if this has already been asked a zillion times, I couldnt find much on my search)
Help!! Need new kind of extensions!!! Posted: June 05 2008 at 5:11pm
I've had hair integreation
for 3 years and my own hair is very long and very thin but it has
grown. I lost a lot of hair in the crown area due to constant
tightenings but that's the price I paid for starting with JA
Alternatives here in NY and then Don Cosa Images. The damage was done
by then. I have a full integration unit on a matrix (net like unit) and
go for tightenings now every 4 weeks. I can go to 8 weeks but the
technician has more work as it is very loose. I know how to handle...
Help! How do I remove Keratin bond residue? Posted: May 30 2008 at 8:17pm
First of all.... I ordered 8 oz of Bohyme from Ebonyline.com and I HATE it. I had GreatLengths
4 consecutive times and loved the hair. After reading up on Bohyme here
and hearing all the rave reviews I figured it would be close to the
quality I had with GreatLengths....not
even CLOSE. I applied 4 oz of the Bohyme to my hair via fusion with
Keratin chips from yourhairshop.com aka "Tease Salon". The shipping
from Ebonyline was ridiculously slow and the shipping from
yourhairshop.com...
hair damage after extensions Posted: May 27 2008 at 4:18pm
It really depends on a few factors. The type of hair extension you are
getting, the condition/strength of your hair currently, the maintenance
(or lack there of), how long you leave them in for, how well you care
for them, etc...We can tell you personal experiences and offer advice.
What type of extension are you getting? I assume fusion but does it
have a name like GreatLengths? That might help a little more.
Racoon Hair Extensions Posted: May 26 2008 at 3:39am
I dont mind you asking me questions at all. I got a full head and the
initial cost was £400, the maintenance cost at 6 weekswas £120, i got
the 18 inch Standard Hair. Including the wash and blowdry with the prep
shampoo
prior to the application, the whole install lasted about 3 hours. I
have not heard much about the Micro Wefts, i would have thought they
would be more suitable for temporary wear though. Here are the methods
i have used and worn over theyears and myopinions on them: Dome...
GreatLengths to wefts... Peoria, AZ ... Posted: May 20 2008 at 7:06am
I have been wearing extensions for about 8 years. For the last 2 years I have been wearing GreatLengths
and my hair has not grown at all because of all the breakage. In fact,
it's a lot shorter and thinner. In the past I have tried a different
fusion type which looked bad because they were much thicker pieces than
the G.L. I don't want to go that route either. I have also tried the
wefts and that is the only time my hair grew. I need to find someone to
switch me over to that again. My...
Man ripped for extensions Posted: May 09 2008 at 8:09pm
I have been doing searches on extension methods and stylists and came
across an interesting site. www.mlhh.org A guy posted that he has GreatLengths extensions and he posted a picture. His hair looks great,
a little to feminine for me but he has the long hair that he wanted. A
lot of the guys are criticizing him. I don't get it coming from a bunch
of long haired guys. I think they could use some feedback from the
ladies and men on this site. They need some education. Go get 'em. Tom
Tom, Speaking from personal experience, stay away from GreatLengths!
They tell you it is keratin (a protien yor hair already has) but it is
still mixed with glue. I am still trying to get my healthy hair back
from a fusion experience 9 months ago. I wish I would have done the
research/read the forum before I did it.
Well I just spoke to her and she said the sew ins are always coming loose. I asked her which type she does and she said GreatLengths
and 1 other type with a bond. Some expert. I think she said sew ins get
loose because she does not do them. I think I will skip her offer and
go elsewhere. Some of the stylists on this site should get together and
open an extensions only salon with all the different types. This way a
customer could get the best for their hair type. I would travel to get
it done...
Are greatlengths really that bad?? Posted: May 01 2008 at 9:22pm
I agree with MintMocha. GreatLengths
is a good product with decent hair, but the real determination if one
gets damage or not is the expertise the the person applying them and
also taking them out, and of course the care the client gives to them
too. Extensions should not be left in for longer than 12 weeks or else
damage can occur. I think the clip in hair is a great way to grow out your hair. I've worn all sorts of extensions over the years, but I always go back to the clip ins because...
Are greatlengths really that bad?? Posted: May 01 2008 at 9:01pm
I personally looooved GreatLengths.
I go back and forth between highlights and lowlights and took very good
care of the hair (Terrax Crema, Biosilk before I flatiron, etc). When
the extensions came out it was a bit of a shock because I was used to a
really thick pony tail and healthy looking strands with no spilt ends
(think Faith Hills hair - circa 2000) but that is the reason I paid for
INDIAN hair - it is stronger than my fine hair. After a good trim I my
hair lookednice and healthyagain. I'm...
Are greatlengths really that bad?? Posted: May 01 2008 at 8:24pm
Hi! I am a hairstylistwho works in a salon that does GreatLengths.
We do lots of extensions and the owner has been doing them for many
years. I've been wanting to get them, but can't yet because my hair is
too short. I've removed extensions on clients who take fantastic care
of them, and their hair doesn't seem damaged at all, and clients who
aren't gentle with them and their hair looks like crap. It also seems
like the clients who also bleach their hair or get highlights...
How do you tone Bohyme hair? Posted: April 08 2008 at 4:21pm
Recently I have been thinking of purchasing
a full lacewig, you have to check out HB lacewig forum, it is just
incredible!! Check out the install pics, you're gonna blown away by how
invisible most of these units are! Anyway, I am thinking of using some of my Bohyme hair but
I will have a little issue if I want to use it for a lacewig. The
colors I use are great for extensions (blending with my own hair) but it will be a little too golden if I need to apply this hair on my scalp....
Anyone heard of 17th and glamour method? Posted: April 04 2008 at 1:37pm
http://17thandglamour.com/index2.html I went in and spoke to a guy working there, they sound great and they said 100% money back if you have damage? Anyone heard of them or have any experience with this method? I've had greatlengths
the last 6 months and have them out now for a break. I may try this
method next time. Anyone have anything negative about this kind? Thanks
in advance.
euro socap removal Posted: April 03 2008 at 9:15am
Oh, Thank You Metalgirl!!! I am so thankful for this forum! If you
could please tell me the ingredients so I can go to Sallys Beauty
Supply and buy the ingredients I would be so grateful! I don't really
trust other people with my hair only the installation but I always like
to take my hair extensions out which I did with greatlengths and alcohol worked good but I noticed with the Socap the bonds are stiffer and harder to take out. Good karma to you!!!
Technique: How High on the Crown? Posted: March 24 2008 at 8:37pm
Hello! I have been wearing strand-by-strand hair extensions for over
two years now, and I still have a question that is answered differently
by every technician. My own hair is abundant but very fine. When I get
the extensions (formerly GreatLengths
and now So Cap), I like them to be applied very high on my head,
usually within a couple of inches of my part. My first stylist did it
this way, then I had to persuade the next, and my current stylist goes
back and forth on the practice, saying you...
Any opinions on BALMAIN HAIR EXTENSIONS? Posted: March 23 2008 at 1:31pm
I just had to CUT a set of balmain hair extensions from my hair for the
same reason. I could not wear my hair down (which defeats the purpose),
they were so tangled and matted within an hour if I did wear them down
so I cut them out after three weeks and guess what....TRY and get a
refund. I'm actually going to start a class action suit as I'm not the
only one....and they won't back up their own product. If you don't like
them. Tough. GreatLengths are fab....had them four times...
Hair Exensions Breaking Hair!!!! Posted: March 13 2008 at 3:50pm
Honestly I think more of her damage is coming from the excessive use of bleach and heated applicances.. Even if you took GreatLengths out of the equation, I think she would still suffer from unhealthy hair..

I had Great Lengths year ago, and my experience was similar. I'm Caucasian with thin, fine, bleached hair. I will say that the Great Lengths hair itself was really nice, but the take-downs were horrible. Good luck.
Thank you ladies for your responses and to Diva for the information you provided... I've been MIA for awhile.. so I haven't been on here since I posted this but THANK U ...
I've read a few of the reviews... and I'm surprised. After reading all of the reviews, I'm wondering if the breakage that a few of you had was from the product or poor applications or if Great Lengths was even used.. I had a client come to me recently to show me her application another stylist had put in , at the time I didnt finish my training with the company.. anyway, the stylist informed her she was putting in Great Lengths hair and it wasnt even great lengths, she had a mixture of fusion in half of her head and the other half ,had in some extensions with some metal links because the stylist ran out of the "Great Lengths hair" and then she told her that it was still Great lengths just a different type. Her friend had in some extensions as well and the application she had in was so poorly done, but she didnt know any better. The sad thing is that especially with first timers they can never tell the bad from the good.
But it can happen to anyone, because you can never tell the bad until you've had something good.
I read that some people who had GL, their natural hair was thin before the application and after taking them out.. it didnt help them, but made their hair worst. There is a way to apply them when ur hair is thin, but did your technican inform you when your hair is very thin, there is chance that the your hair wouldn't be able to hold the weight of the extension and the results of that will be the loss of the extension and your hair?
I dont know what to think, I've been working with weaves, wigs and extensions for a good while now.. I just went to get my training with Great lengths.. and before actually crossing over in the Strand by Strand department, I've witnessed ALOT of stylists use bad judgement when it comes to extensions and because of the love of money they didnt say no to the client ...(of course no one wants thousands of dollars walking out the door) but .. they knew the client shouldnt get the extensions because it wasnt for them. I also witnessed stylists do poor applications.. poor bond placement ..putting it too close to the scalp maybe the reason for all the breakage or maybe it's from the clients not brushing the hair from root to end causing it to mat and tangle or maybe it was the removal.. the tweezers used to take out the extensions can break off your hair if it isnt used properly or maybe the person's hair just needed a break from the extensions.. who knows
I just wish some stylists will stop being in such a haste to collect the funds and perform the service the way they was taught how to do it.. Ladies, I wish you all the best .. thank you for participating in my post..
well i have to chime in here. I might be the lone person who actually liked great lengths and saw no or very little damage (if any) with them. I had worn them on/off for about 3 years and did see my hair grow. I have a great stylist who is very carefull and really good about takedown and installation. I found some of the other methods more damaging. I have very fine thin hair too like the others on this thread. My stylist cut the GL bonds in half to make them smaller and she never placed them close to the scalp. i have even removed them myself with the GL remover and never noticed any problems.
Perhaps those two factors, the not putting the bonds too close to the scalp and cutting them down could make a difference. When they were installed on me, they were full size and right up near my scalp and I had some problems on removal. Also the hair was quite terrible for what it costs. I have used far better hair that was less expensive in fact.

Thats another issue I had with GL. There was no quality-consistency in the hair! I wish I knew THEN what I know NOW! I had installs that were crappy cheap hair, and then others that were nice?! The stylist would always blame me, but I followed all the extension 'rules', so to speak. After spending that much $, who wouldn't? lol
